Real Madrid's relentless pursuit of Ronaldo

And we thought Man-U could be underhanded about the way in which they pursue players.

Seems like every day there's an article in Marca, whose sole purpose, it seems, is to unsettle the winger. There's been several articles claiming he's unhappy at Man-U, and wants to move. There was the article last week about a club car waiting for him in Madrid. Now today Marca point out that Ronaldo could force Man-U to sell him by handing in a transfer request.

Totally underhanded and out of order imo. Surely there's something Man-U can do? Although I suppose it's funny to see them get some of their own medicine, from the only club in the world capable of doing so.

I think it's pretty bad what Madrid are doing. There should be some pretection for clubs against this. Ultimately though, the players will always have the power. Once a player has signed a contract you can force them to play for you, but who wants a player at their club who doesnt want to be there? Plus you run the risk of losing them for free. I reckon he'll go from what I've heard when he's been intervied, he wont catagorically state that he wants to stay. It will have to be for an astronomical fee though, especially if he has a good Euros.

Also, does anyone else find it wierd that Real's main news papers' name is one letter different from the nickname of their most bitter rivals? It's like Hotspur being called Tunner!

Is this not the exact tactics Utd have done previously?

Remember the whole Carrick thing, rumours going around the the Utd players trying to tap him up whilst away with England.

What goes around, comes around.

It happens, it makes it interesting for the fans, it would be rubbish if all the top clubs had a real love-in, I love a big of fighting between the big-uns.

I'm enjoying it. As Shanks says; what comes around goes around.

Funny that SAF starts throwing his toys out of the pram and wanting to report them to FIFA and the UN.

Mind you, Marca/Real do know how to infuriate other clubs!

I'm with you on this one nick, they hypocrisy is astounding to me. They're famous for doing this but as soon as someone does it to them, they're off to tell on them.

I'm just finding it a bit boring. But Guillem Balague actually got it spot on. He said pre CL final that afterwards Ronaldo would come out and say something that would leave everything in the open. He did just that, saying everything will be clearer in a couple of weeks. So he has kept the ball rolling. I for one hope he stays as the premiership is a better place with him in it.

Bayern Munich were at the centre of the irony that is Sir Alex Ferguson when he chased Owen Hargreaves from one window to the next in full daily paper public.

Astonishing hypocracy.

Breaking news from Switzerland is that some Brazilian journalist has got a quote from Ronaldo saying he wants to go to Real. Im a bit sceptical about it, as Ronaldo has said before he wants to move to Real one day. that will be 40 odd goals Man Yoo will have to find if he does leave them

I like him in the EPL, he's great to watch and since its hard for me to get La Liga games in the states, I'd be sad to see him go.

Surprised no one has posted this, its all over the net.

"I'd like to play for Real Madrid but only if it's true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them," he told respected Brazilian website Terra.
"However, it does not depend on me," said Portuguese midfielder.
"I'll only talk about this again after the European Championships," added Ronaldo. "Don't ask me any questions because I won't answer."

Reportedly Ferguson had cut short a holiday in France to attempt to convince his player to stay at Old Trafford, although Ronaldo is understood to have told his club manager he is not welcome. As such, Ferguson is now unlikely to make the trip to Switzerland.

We are not above that either. Did we unsettle Hutton or Routledge before him?

Sorry, but this all seems like tabloid (both uk and foreign) generated hysteria to fill up pages due to lack of english football stories. I do not believe anyone has interviewed him and I do not believe Fergie has cut short a holiday. Balls, the lot of it. Same as those alleged 'quotes' from Rooney after the last world cup about Ronaldo.

Man Yoo coming out and saying Ronaldo is not for sale.........no brainer really. However, i think he is on his way which is a shame as its a big loss to the EPL. I reckon Man Yoo should say we want Robinho and Sergio Ramos plus a bit of cash, that would be the best deal they could hope for.

He'll go.

It'll be a world record, though.

I think the EPL may fall into decline over the next few seasons, which is by no means a bad thing.

I'm surprised if this has come as a shock to many people but I'd have thought it was bound to happen.
As a top English player you'd want to succeed in England, you may play abroad and be succesful but ultimately you'd want to do it in England
The same goes for Italian players in Italy and the same goes for Spanish players in Spain, Portuguese also look to Spain in this way.
This is the reason Fabregas will leave arsenal quite soon even if or perhaps particularly if they win the EPL (unlikely I know)
The only exception I see to this may be Torres as he is Atletico Madrid through and through so he won't want to be successful with another Spanish club, one thing is for certain he won't go to Real.

I guess having won the CL with Utd Ronaldo figures its a good time to move on.

PS france don't count.
