Dermot Gallagher felt Thilo Kehrer's clear handball should have been caught by Michael Oliver, which then lead to VAR not being involved and Tottenham missing out on a penalty against West Ham.

So, everyone in the studio felt it was a penalty but Dermot (who thinks it was a penalty) doesn't think it was a clear and obvious mistake by Oliver for the VAR to get involved.

Personally, I feel that VAR is almost always too scared to 'overrule' Oliver. I like that Oliver feels strongly about his decisions but he should still have looked at that handball again.

I still remember the penalty he gave for Arsenal when Sanchez and Lacazette collided. Yes, Lacazette went flying but as shown by the replays he'd actually missed the ball and kicked Sanchez. Either Oliver wasn't told to view it again or simply didn't want to hear an alternative opinion . Whatever, from that moment I've always felt he wouldn't easily be overruled by VAR and Sunday's incident wasn't a surprise.

The usual suspects, culprits, losers and beneficiaries most of the time.

I think VAR might have felt he was knocked slightly off balance and have stretch out the hand for balance. To be fair, it wasn't a clear error, and they wont over turn it unless the view of ref was blocked.

I felt we were unlucky to get the call, always hard to win a pen if you are not man u or liverpool.

If we didn't win then I felt we would have question this more. But thankful we won and this won't keep me up all night thinking what would have been.

I do like Oliver as a ref but I am not surprised (when I should be) that he's given more penalties (8 to 5) against us but more red cards (4 to 1) and yellow cards (83 to 75) for us.

He was also the VAR who disallowed the Harry Kane goal against Sheff Utd when Lucas was bundled over and the ball smashed from close range into his back/shoulder/top of arm as he hit the ground. Watching it again at full speed the decision is absolutely not clear and obvious and the total antithesis of what used to be thought of as the spirit of the game. The fact the officials gave Utd a free kick just adds to the pain. It's up there with the pre-VAR Pablo Mendez and Jan Vertonghen disallowed 'goals' as probably the worst three decisions I've had the misfortune to be watching live.

Who on earth is Pablo Mendez? You mean Pedro Mendes versus Man U??

Absolutely, the wonderful Pedro Mendez. I am duly chastened.

Unfortunately, with age you need to double check everything and, of course, sometimes you forget to even do that!

I once stayed with a Pablo whilst travelling through Colombia quite memorably during the Pablo Escobar days. I've never known a Pedro and them's the things with memory and age; messes ensue. To be fair I always was better with faces than names. I can only pray the rest of the post is correct.

If that was the case his hand would have been facing palm down to help him get his balance. It wasn't it was facing the ball, deliberately so IMO.
