Conor Clifford, captain of Chelskis youth teams and reserves & was always mentioned by scum staff in interviews but hasn't gotten near their first team & couldnt even get a game when on loan at portsmoth this season or crawley. Released by chelski at start of year, has joined Leicester now but hasn't got a game yet.

Gaizka mendieta, was actually truly world class for about a season or 2 then moved to Italy for about 30mil n lasted a season before somehow ending up rotting at middlesborough with southgate refusing to play him for some reason.

One that goes back a bit, Peter Marinello signed for the Gooners in 1970 for £100,000. He was dubbed the next George Best (probably because he was always on the piss). In 3 years he never racked up a complete season for them 38 games out of 126 and scored 3 goals. Oh how we laughed.

Edmundo obviously still achieved a lot, but if he had had his head screwed on a bit straighter, he could have been even more immense. Love my footballing mavericks, Edmundo is one of my faves.

Other under achievers that spring to mind compared with how much they were touted at certain points....

Florian Maurice
Ibrahim Bakayoko
Ibrahim Ba
Caio
Prosinecki ( was still very good but could've been proper great if not for chain smoking and double leg break )
Mark Burchill ( labelled Scotland's Michael Owen LOL )
Moriero ( great on the wing for Inter for like a season, then completely fell off of radar )
Darko Pancev
Fernando Redondo ( again, he was actually amazing but is perhaps my favourite player of my lifetime and could have been an all time great if not for very early retirement and being in dispute with Argentina over refusing to cut his hair )
Vincenzo Montella ( great all round striker who had 2-3 seasons of blistering form for Roma. Kind of fell away after that due to injury etc. He could have been even better than he was I think )
Savio ( explosive winger forward, never lived up to it at Madrid as he should have )

Lots of great ones said already. I'm actually now looking back at the wording of the thread title and realize I have kind of gone way off base. Apologies.

What's happening with Conor Wickham? Doesn't look to be getting a game with Sundreland. It very often seems to be the case with average youngsters who grow quickly in this country getting overhyped. Their size and strength at a young age makes them look so much better than their peers but when they start playing with other fully grown adults they get shown up as being pretty average. From a Spurs perspective Tomas Pekhart springs to mind.

Savio Nsereko. The guy that was at West Ham. I mean, come on, what was that all about?

Last I head he got caught trying to extort his own family for money by faking his own kidknapping in Thailand and demanding his family paid a mythical ransom for his release. Smooth, Savio, real smooth.

Acimovic - thought he could have done better with his career. Postiga was another the potential was always there but rarely shown. Tarabsi the Utd keeper was excellent until he made a couple of massive boobs at Utd and never quite recovered.
