Tanguy Ndombele has become a key figure for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The French midfielder has really impressed in a more advanced midfield role, having take some time to settle in at the club following his big-money move in the summer of 2019.

Or maybe it's because we have a brilliant player in Lo Celso available to replace him and that allows us to keep up the intensity for 90 minutes...

It's honestly amazing watching people jump through hoops to try and find a negative for why this substitution happens.

We're very unlikely to take off our two world class players in Kane and Son, We don't have a like for like swap for the likes of Sissoko and Hojbjerg who are in the team not only their defensive endeavour but excellent physical conditioning which is typical of players playing that role and thus those type of players are rarely subbed.

So that leaves two options for a substitution. The right winger who usually gets subbed and Ndombele. Seeing as Lamela is injured and is without doubt our best right sided forward in terms of defensive endeavour, we're seeing Bergwijn remain on the pitch more often than not and then rested on Thursdays and sometimes we see Moura brought in. So unless Jose wants to change his shape to bring Lo Celso on for Bergwijn, which clearly he doesn't because the shape is what is working so well for us atm, the sub will be Ndombele off for Lo Celso. No coincidence the sub we made early during the NLD was gio off because that is the position which can be sacrificed in a shape change without disrupting the other roles.

Spoiler alert - there is no report.

Terrible article - was hoping for some fascinating facts eg sprints/dribbles/passes in first 45 vs after etc etc. Alan Smith could have written that.

"Mourinho doing this is ‘all part of the plan to build his stamina to where it counts most in the latter part of the season’, even if the player is visibly frustrated. "
