Floyd Mayweather is poised for a dramatic return to boxing.

Sky Sports News understands that the Pretty Boy will make a comeback on July 18 against Mexican ace Juan Manuel Marquez.

An official announcement is expected in the next few days, possibly after Ricky Hatton takes on Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night, live on Sky Box Office.

The news will come as a huge pre-fight boost to Hatton, because it is also understood that the winner of that will meet the winner of Mayweather-Marquez, probably at the tail-end of the year.

Hatton has always craved a rematch since his 10-round schooling at the hands of the former pound-for-pound king in December 2007.

That was the last time Mayweather Jr boxed but it is well-known that he has kept himself in shape.

Before Saturday's superfight was signed and sealed there were also strong rumours of an four-way eliminator with involving the Pretty Boy, Hatton, Pacquiao and Marquez, with the winners facing off in another blockbusting battle for pound-for-pound supremacy.

And in the run-up to the Hitman's showdown with Pacquiao, his trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr all but confirmed his soon would soon be back in the ring.

But in a further boost for the Mancunian, he also revealed that should there be a rematch, he is willing to go against his son and stay in in Hatton's corner.

"That's where I'll be, exactly where I'll be," he said when asked if would switch allegiances in a possible rematch.

"Little Floyd is back in the gym but I'm not concerned about when he is fighting, I'm training Ricky Hatton now. Me and my son have had a fall-out and I'm going to let it be that way."

Mayweather Jr has won all 39 fights and boasts victories over Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah and Oscar De La Hoya among others.

But he has never captured the hearts of the American fight public and even broke down in tears after beating Carlos Baldomir in April 2006, claiming he was going to walk away from a sport that didn't appreciate him.
He boxed twice more, beating Hatton and De La Hoya and even turned his hand to WWE wrestling.

Outstanding boxer, hope that it all works out and we get to see the rematch against Hatton - i know he's an arrogant, stuck up twat, but i do kinda feel sorry for him. The only reason he never got over with the fans is because he's playing a classic heel gimmick, what does he expect? If you're going to invent a persona for yourself then you have to understand that wrestling has already defined what is a good guy and what is a bad guy, and marching around in golden armour, staring down your nose at anyone who looks at you = booooo!

I am not surprised he is coming back it was always only a matter of time. Floyd goes where the big money is.

I think he will fight Hatton, Pacquiao and Marquez. (not all at the same time of course, although he probably would if the money was right.)

Would LOOOOOOVE to see Mayweather/Hatton Pt. 2.

More than any other fight.

But it'll be Pacman v Mayweather. And let's be honest, it's not too shabby either!

The 140 division is a bloody joy! (give or take a few pounds!)

Floyd is a class performer, and is probably two superfights away from being considered an all time great but has temporary retirement made him hungrier, or has he got lazy?

been having a gander at some random message boards and other places and the general concensus is that he's stayed in tip top shape but, that said, it could easily be hype. I'm actually looking forward to his first press conference almost as much as the fight

Be interesting to see - i don't doubt he'll have lost none of his charisma outside the ring, it's just a case of seeing how much rust he'll carry in with him. Looking at the approach he took to his previous fights, i can't imagine he'll be stepping through the ropes in anything but 110% condition.

I am pretty sure he never intended to retire, it was more a marketing ploy stroke negotiation techinque to secure more hype about his next fights.

I think he will walk through Marquez and then the fight against Pacquiao will be the big one. The extra size and elusive skills will be the differnce in that fight I feel and I would have Mayweather as the favourite to win, although it should make for a very entertaining fight.

I'm so happy he's returned. I think he needs to fight Pacquiao, this will be the biggest fight in my lifetime.

Clearly Hatton v Mayweather 2 was never going to happen, people aren't going to buy into the hype twice.
