Ex-Spartak Moscow Boss: Roman Pavlyuchenko Should Have Joined Arsenal

Oleg Romantsev will cause a storm at White Hart Lane because he feels 'Pav' would have been better playing at Ashburton Grove.

Roman Pavlyuchenko will never be a hit with Tottenham Hotspur, should seek a transfer out of White Hart Lane and would have been better suited to the style of play at Spurs' north London rivals Arsenal, according to the striker's former coach at Spartak Moscow, Oleg Romantsev.

"I was never against my players' moves into European premier leagues - but for me the most important thing was that they went to the right teams for them," he told The Daily Mail.

"I wish Pavlyuchenko had talked to me before his move to London. It is going to be very hard for him at Tottenham. That team is not for him.

"They play a powerhouse sort of football with a lot of crosses and tussling for the ball. I don't mean they play badly - such football is liked by many people. But Pavlyuchenko is more used to a technical game.

"Tottenham also have three other classy forwards who are better adapted to such football. I'm worried about Roman but still hope he's going to make it back into the starting line-up."

He then added, in words that will be sure to rile up ardent Tottenham fans, "Arsenal's football style is much closer to that of Spartak. They play a very technical game with a lot of fast, short or medium range passing and inventive, unorthodox moves.

"In this sense Arshavin was luckier with his choice of an English team."

LMFAO is this guy serious? Powerhouse?????? We have been the powderpuffs of the prem since George Graham got the sack! Only Wilson has given us some bite recently! Also alot of crosses??? I don't think so we really don't score many headed goals at all!

Press propaganda, making a story out of nothing type story. But we do put crosses in all the time.....rarely play through the middle, but yeah we rarely ever tussled for the ball before Palacios.

Haven't seen the stats but I'm sure we do score a lot from crosses, not headers...but from what I remember a cross will go in (usually from Lennon, about 1ft off the ground) it'll get spilled, defended but will end up in the back of the net.

Hiddink pretty much said the same thing. If we're honest, Arshavin did go to the right club that suits his game. Let's be honest can you imagine him having the same success with us that he's had with the Scum? No they play a direct, one touch game based on pace which suits him down to a tee.

Yet to see why Pav would fit into that kind of style of play though, so don't really understand the blokes comparison. But I do agree that Arshavin wouldn't fit into our style of play.

can't agree with that, Pav looks tired recently, it was clear since Bro game.

but i can't agree with Makkaveli101 about Arshavin, we hardly find a place for Modric in 4-4-2 which Harry like, Arshavin smilar to him, both are better for 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 which Ramos & Wenger like to use.

Asharvin is much more direct than Modric, hes more greedy and will go at goal first and foremost, then search for team mates later. A lot of our goals come from the wings, Modric and Lennon have set up a heap of goals coming in from the flanks, but to suggest we are one dimensional is ridiculous, we play fantastic football at times, and while Arsenal play some great football, Man Utd and Liverpool both play a very technical passing game, but they play it at twice the speed that Arsenal do and thats why they are the two best teams in the league.

I think Arshavin has given Scum a dimension they never had, he is direct, he is always looking for the end product, a cross/pass/shot, doesnt play the pass pass pass game they do with no end product, which was epitomised by Hleb.

The reason I genuinely prefer to watch Spurs, hand on heart, is we play the same style but more direct. Much like Barcelona who also pass the ball alot but are always looking for the end product wereas Arsenal just seem to be happy to pass it around until they can pass it into the net.

I think when Pav applies himself he is a hit anywhere he has technical ability and has shown he has the strength too

I think we have a similar style to Man Utd but with less quality in the final 3rd.

He is right that we don;t exactly play to PAvs strengths. We are always facilitating Modric and Lennon over the strikers.

i like Pavs. The article is insane but I have a worrying feeling that when this sort of polution emits from Russia we are somehow going to get stitched up like with AA in the summer.

lol I don't think Pav looks 'tired' at all and I'm convinced we will see pretty much the same Pav next year. maybe a few more league goals, some great touches and many z row shots. I think this is Pav and judging by his performances in the past for Russia we just have to accept that.

He's just bitter as he's lost his top goalscorer

Pav's shown glimpses of class, sometimes berba-esque. I'm hoping it's just that he's not had a break for while that's causing him to be lazy, and next season he shows that he can really produce. We need someone big like him to complement our fiesty little forwards
