The ex-Burnley captain and manager (he spent around 30 years with the club) has died aged 82. He was on the losing side when we beat Burnley to bring home the FA Cup in 1962, a game which I went to and the season he won the FA Footballer of the Year award.

I interviewed him in his office at Turf Moor for Jimmy Hill's Football Weekly in 1968 (before watching our game against them) and found him to be a thoroughly nice man as well as being an extremely talented right-half. He was already coaching and I asked him whether he would like to become a manager. He took over as team manager at Burnley in 1970 for six seasons and went on to manage Sunderland and Leeds as well as a spell at Sparta Rotterdam.

Yet another footballing stalwart has left the pitch.

RIP.

I remember him Cosmic', sad to hear this.
I don't know where they're all going but wherever it is they've got one almighty league when they get there.
