So apparently there is a policy that we dont have statues - the policy is so out of touch. Interesting. I dont agree with it and find statues can be unclassy but come to think of it I find it staggering that there are no statues or rather stands named after certain figures part of our history. I also find it strange that for a club to have a policy about not having statues, allow our current crop to play like statues.

I think there is a museum right? Perhaps there will be stuff in there.

I'd like to wager a bet there will be no statues at the stadium - I expect it's part of ENIC's plan to promote it as a multi-purpose stadium and not to identify with one particular sport per se (which kind of tells you how ENIC view the club). Crying shame to be honest; almost as shameful as England's greatest striker only receiving a paltry MBE!!

Yep, tells you everything. Put little details within the stadium as a nod to the old WHL that don’t get in the way, but we can’t be cluttering up the outside with a homage to our legends that put the club on the map in case it gets in the way of our other “commercial partnerships”.

As Keith Burkinshaw famously said, “there used to be a football club over there”.

If that is the case then I’m done.

My main memory of greavise is from watching Saint and greavise as a kid. I LOVED that show.

Such a legend and when you see him as a TV icon it'd hard to believe he was such an elite athlete but he clearly was

Rest in peace.?

Can understand the frustration with the club but how do you decide who should be remembered with a statue , Jimmy was a legend but the heart behind the team and another legend in the sixties was Dave Mackay , he hasn't got a statue , when Stevie Perryman passes on does he get a statue as the record appearance holder for the club ?

My dad, who is fortunately still around, still compares every player we’ve had to this man, and in his eyes none have come remotely close. I did have the privilege of being in the dressing room after a game he played for Barnet along with terry Mancini, the ex qpr centre half, but I was only young and the memory is a blur…..but my dad says he is still the best he has ever seen… that’ll do for me…

As I wrote in the 51 title thread there is a new, to me, treasure trove of early 60s highlights on You Tube posted by the heavy roller. Includes a brilliant goal by Jimmy away to West Brom in 62 in FA Cup
There are loads of other goals and action involving Jimmy too in the videos from various games including a couple of goals from the four he scored when we beat Forest 9 2

Just listening to an interview with Mike Donovan (on the Radio London feed) on his new book "The Jimmy Greaves We Knew: An Authorised Celebration of a National Treasure"

Already published in the UK and here on Amazon in December, so that's my Christmas book take care of. He's still my boyhood hero and always will be.

Had he played in a later era with tv cameras at every game, he would be far more appreciated globally than he is. The man was such a gifted footballer.

I’m not old enough to have seen Greavsie play. This was the man I knew and loved on a Saturday…
