For anyone with BT Sport they have a Jimmy Greaves documentary available on demand. Have already seen it before, but going to watch it again today. Great stuff.
I got to meet him a few years back, and he signed my Spurs shirt for me. Not only an amazing footballer and goal scorer, but a genuinely funny and nice bloke. Rip Jimmy.
My boy is also named Jimmy, most people think after Hendrix, but I point out that it’s the wrong spelling for that.
Hardly unexpected but still very upsetting news. I’m far too young to have watched him play but my dad often talks about Greavesie in the same bracket as the very best of all time.
I read a terrific book by him some years ago (think it was called The Heart of the Game). Sadly illness stopped him from sharing his love and insight for football with a wider audience some time ago but he was much more even than a great player.
Fitting that we’re facing Chelsea today. Hope our boys do the great man proud.
I never saw him play was before my time but obviously heard the legend. I remember watching him on Saint and Greavsie though and he was so funny and entertaining.
Never saw him play. He is the word of legend. And yet he means so much to me as a Spurs fan despite this. Feel very numb right now. A really sad day for his family. A huge loss. A very sad day. There will be time, intention and heart to celebrate his life and I look forward to doing this very much. But now is time to mourn. RIP Jimmy
RIP Mr Greaves.
The most natural born footballer I’ve ever seen & made the game look so easy. Always 3 or 4 passes ahead of everyone else.
a TRUE legend of the game
Used to watch Saint & Greavsie then set off for the game at the lane. Good memories even tho I never saw him play. Rest in Peace Jimmy. Our greatest ever striker.
Was lucky enough to have been at the lane in 1965 against mutd and saw Jimmy’s goal , the absolute reason i and many yids following the lillywhite was Jimmy . In bits writing this ???
