That's lovely Tommy,went to John's funeral yesterday and there was a strong Spurs representation there including a Spurs crest next to the coffin ,apparently Mike Rollo the retired commercial director was responsible for that,he had his Spurs blazer on along with David Pleat and Gary Mabbutt,Garth Crooks there also, however as we were waiting to go in struck up a conversation with a couple of lovely blokes and one turned out to be Peter Day who was club secretary from 82-87,just looked it up and it would appear he lost his job over the shirt cock-up with Holsten at the 87 cup final.
Obviously plenty of football faces and TV guys knocking about but we were stood with his wife Annie as people started to leave the reception and say their goodbyes and I kept asking who's that etc and remarkable how many were from the local pub!
A sad day obviously and his sudden death can't help you thinking 77 isn't old enough but after taking it all in(a chap called Bill Hamilton who'd started at a similar time to John at the BBC did a superb eulogy)you couldn't help appreciating what a wonderful life John and his ilk lived travelling the world for football . RIP Motty.
