And I was annoyed at HR for playing Keano there. But most know I wanted GDS to start. Wasnt even on the bench. So yeah, I think HR has to hold his hands up for the starting 11 and bench on this defeat.

I think the difference for me (the bottling aside) is Defoe's undoubted desire to score goals! Defoe can get 20-25 Premiership goals this season, that in itself is a major team contribution as is 5 in 5 so far. Also his presence and desire to get in behind will force some teams to defend that little bit deeper creating a little more space for our other players when we have possesion.

I can't see what Robbie's desires are? It certainly doesn't seem to be to bust a gut to score goals anymore, or to give it everything he can in over areas.

You know what I think about Keane but I also feel that if he'd just spent the last couple of years playing off a quality hold up guy who would do the donkey work, he'd still be annoying but wouldn't have got quite so far up our noses. With less responsibility he'd probably bang in at least as many goals as Defoe (as I actually think that Keane has a few more "finishes" in his kit bag) and would also see a bit more of the ball.(defoe's 5 passes against Birmingham was pitiful)

Tactically Jol started the rot by playing Keane deeper than Berbatov - completey the wrong way round - for most of a season. Jol also played Keane at LM, which again saw his weaknesses amplified.

Redknapp refused to play Pavlyuchenko last season in the holding role, refusing to drop and ever decreasing Keane. Insisting he carried on in his link role. He has also played him at LM. This again just served to amplify his weaknesses. With a player like Pav on the bench there was no excuse to not drop Keane and I believe it would have galvanised him.

Keane winds me up no end but Defoe doesn't always fill me with joy either. Whe they both went for 35m I had high hopes that we wouldn't struggle to replace them. Go figure.

:duh:

Bassong has gone missing in a lot of dangerous attacks. Ledders is doing the main shift when real danger is evident.

I take it you missed his goal line clearance against Manu ? Bassong was probably the MOTM against ManU. At one point I saw him telling Ledley and the rest of the defence what to do.

This kid has not only barely put a foot wrong all season, but has pace that Woodgate doesn't have, is at least as comfortable on the ball and is already demonstarting good communicative (dare I say leadership) skills.

As ever Gibbsy, it's when you agree with me that I'll start to shit myself.

This is where we differ, even in the modern game i will take 1 of my front players just being an out and out goal scorer. I really think Defoe can score 20-25 premiership goals, for me if a player does this I will completely look past his defencies.

Like you I tolerated and almost grudgingly accepted Keane when he was scoring goals, but when he isn't then there is just nothing worthwhile there at all and the same can be said of Defoe. But the difference that I see is just how much desire Defoe has to do that, and now he doesn't have to worry about Jol smashing his confidence to pieces he will always get himself in to positions to do so. I also like his selfish not scared to miss streak that he has when he's managed properly, it is precisely this that will allow him to score plenty of goals.

I think the biggest problem with Keane right now is that he even knows himself that he's a shot player and there's just nothing left in the tank at all.

He's never been a player I've personally liked but even I find it quite sad to see that people I know who used to love him are now nothing more than fucking aggravated and annoyed by him.

Yeah me thinking Bassong isn't better than Woodgate is crazy.

He has barley put a foot wrong because he barley gets a foot in. Sure he does bread and butter tackles, but the really intense stuff he leaves for others.

He's good. But I think he leaves huge gaps because he is terrified of making mistakes.

These gaps often have Hutton and BAE, Corky struggling to fill space.

Woodgate is "ever present" when he plays and you at least have to work when you are in his manor.
