Negotiations moved on today. He wants £75k a week. Fitness issues over his knees at nearly 33 but there would be many clauses in any contract. Puzzled to hear alsoo some doubts over whether Keane will stay. Defoe the only current striker sure to be with us next season.

Jorge Valdano has set a Monday deadline on the Huntelaar deal. Stuttgart have offered £20m, which includes a chunk for Champions League qualification. We have to match that. If he doesn't come it's the Croucher.

Not sure how far down the pecking order he is. Archie gave this one about month ago. Heard it was close last night. Assume that's why there is movement out today. Better attacking option but can't see him locking up an away game like Jamie

New name on my radar. Plays for Palermo. Maybe explains Harry's trip to Italy week before last. Think he's a young Danish international centre-back. More if I hear.
Some top brass over from Palermo today.
[Update 48] Roger Morgan re: titbits
Date 21st Jan 2010
Site Spurs Odyssey
I know none of us are much in the mood for it but here goes.

1, Expect West Ham (yes, I know) to make a ludicrously high wage offfer to RVN which is likely to blow ours out of the water. We are not convinced over his fitness. He has been released by Real Madrid so they will no longer be involved in paying part of his wages.

2 Eidur Gudjohnsen is a very real alternative.

3 Bolton will bid for Jamie O'Hara.

[Update 159] Roger Morgan re: Forlan
Who Roger Morgan
Site Spurs Odyssey
My latest info is that the price for Forlan, and his wages, is
coming down nearer our valuation. Atletico want about 10m with wages about 70k per week. Age, and therefore no sell-on value, is the downside. Atletico desperate for money so may go to the wire.
We are still pushing hard for Neville. Everton might bite for a small cash offer. Player wants to come. Moyes apparently very frustrated with a lack of movement at his end for new players although they are looking at two Valencia guys on loan, one striker one midfielder.
I have nothing on Diarra or Benzema.

We have made an enquiry. Has one year left on his Everton deal. Wanted as reliable cover. Cheap stop-gap. We also like Samba but Arsenal are in for him too and are more likely to pay asking price of around £10m.
[Update 32] Roger Morgan - Goalkeeper
Who: Roger Morgan
Where: SO
When: 20/05/11
I've had two bits of slightly conflicting information. One was that we are keeping Gomes and Harry just wants another solid back-up to push him. Now I'm hearing that we are taking much greater interest in Foster. It may be that Birmingham's financial plight is so dire we think we can get him cheaper than we originally thought.
[Update 40] Roger Morgan - update
Where: SO
When: 23/05
Here is my latest info, no doubt a few hostages to fortune in here and much of it a recap of what I have posted before. Some of it a statement of the bleedin obvious.
Goalkeeper-wise. Still unsure of this. I'm told we like Foster but may keep Gomes and look for different, experienced back-up.
At right-back, Walker will return from Villa to be our No.1. We'll keep Corluka for his all-round abilities and the fact that he is Luka's big mate is seen as important to keeping Modric settled.
At left-back Rose has done well recently and will be good cover to rotate Benoit more next season.
In midfield we'll definitely keep Sandro, Luka and Big Tom. In wide positions we'll have Bale, Pienaar and one other. Lennon may be allowed to go, Villa very interested, presumably once they have sold Young to United or Liverpool.
We have spoken to Gervinho's (Lille) people who were also approached by Liverpool but seem to be further down the line towards a deal with us. He's a Brazilian winger, very quick and much taller than Lennon, should be a much bigger scorer/creator. Final ball needs work but he has explosive skills, should be suited to Prem.
Similarly we are pressing on with the Osvaldo (Espanyol) deal. Was told Harry has spoken to both Osvaldo and Gervinho.
We are also prepared to let Pav, Defoe and Crouch all go and freshen up strike force. Unsure of other striker names but if Drogba is expendable we'd be pushing hard to get him.
Of the rest, the following will leave to generate funds: O'Hara (Wolves fav, obviously, but he's good enough to trigger an auction), Jenas, Hutton, Niko and maybe even Palacios. Woodgate is out of contract.
No idea about Ledley. Maybe we'll keep him going till his engine drops out.
Obviously I expect GDS and Robbie to move on too.
You'll have known much of this but that's where we are today from my perspective.

[Update 49] Roger Morgan - Brad Friedel
When: 25/05/2011
Where: SO
2 year deal. Sounds like it's happening.
[Update 62] Roger Morgan - Thibaut Courtois
When: 29/05/11
Where: SO
I heard we had bid £3m for Thibaut Courtois of Genk, who want double that. He's 19 and pretty good so Archie's bang on about us chasing a new young keeper.
Further to my Lennon tip. He does not want to join Villa. Liverpool is his destination of choice.
[Update 80] Roger Morgan - Joe Cole
Date 4th June
Site Spurs Odyssey
Cole deal for £3m. Liverpool desperate to get him off wage bill. Medical next week.
I think he signed a 4-year deal for £90k a week (at Liverpool). He was a Bosman and received a large signing on bonus, though some of that would only be paid over the duration of the deal, which will now be cut short.
Liverpool desperate to get him out so they can bring in younger players on much less than that.

I imagine the medical will impact on what wages we are prepared to offer him. The fee I was told, from a top source at Anfield, is agreed at £3m. He had hamstring trouble, then foot and ankle injuries which held him back a lot last season.

I also think he became de-motivated as Hodgson left and Dalglish went for youth and energy to revive Liverpool's season. He's not a Kenny player but is very much a Harry player because of their history.

He is not enjoying life oop north, either. Desperately wants to come back to London. That's all I know.

Roger Morgan on SO Re: The Independent article on Modric (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...stand-firm-over-chelsea-interest-2299988.html)

The Independent article, in all but his wages, is on the money I believe.
and then

The most interesting passage in the Independent story for me is the naming of Kia Joorabchian. You might find he is doing the most spinning of all, for his new chum at Chelsea. My hunch is a Luka statement saying his words were misinterpreted.
and

I think he was on about £40k at the end of last season, when he signed the six-year deal. I believe that put him among our top earners, so £60-70k. It seems our newspaper friends are widely reporting him as still being on £40k. Wonder why?

Re: the new Modric interview (http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/100342.html and http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jul/10/luka-modric-daniel-levy-spurs?)

I'm in no doubt that these quotes are true. It fits in with my information. I am also sure that he will not be sold this window. I think Levy IS prepared to let him rot, at least for a few months, in order to make a statement to every other player and rival club that we won't be messed with. The January window is another matter entirely.

It amuses me that Luka seems to think that a £22m bid from Chelsea should be regarded as a serious offer for his services and has effectively terminated his commitment to the club. It's the fact that he has fallen in love with a move to Chelsea - and only Chelsea, thereby reducing his sell-on value - that really irks me. This is just what Joorabchian and Abramovich wanted. Levy simply cannot bow to this tactic.
and
The other thing about waiting to January is that circumstances at other clubs could change in the first half of the season. Real Madrid or Barca or other big players on the continent could be desperate for a Luka-type player by then. Chelsea may not be quite the same appealing prospect by then if things don't work out with Mr Villas-Boas. Levy should dig his heels in and buy some time. It might help if he told Harry to make no further pronouncements on the player.

It is in Levy's favour that the player's contract is so long that it is not an issue, unlike with Berbatov when he was entering his final year. We shouldn't do anything too inflammatory, just take a firm stance that he's going nowhere for now. And hope that other players step up to the plate.
As I said, I think we're looking at Levy digging his heels in until January. However, I think we can expect Fergie to make a serious move now.

[Update 346] Roger Morgan re:Jase's info
When: 06/08/11
Where: SO
Can't confirm anything on Damiao but we seem to have put a lot into courting this boy so maybe it is on for January.

Heard that still some way adrift on Adebayor and Diarra wages. Adebayor waiting on Real Madrid before he commits. They want another striker and he's on their list, though they really want Neymar. If they don't get a nod on Neymar for January they will go back in for Adebayor on loan. All hinges on Santos.

We have offered Bassong and Bentley plus cash to Blackburn for Samba. Steve Kean was at Old Trafford tonight apparently watching Robbie play for Cosmos in Scholes' game, so I guess that is a fluid deal with Blackburn bring offered all sorts of player permutations in return. I am told they are in a mess, with deals being set up by a variety of agents, one of whom is Brazilian and is trying to push all sorts of foreign players their way. Keane would prefer proven Prem players and there is something of a fall-out between him and the owners (couldn't see that coming!).

Coleman cracked an ankle playing for Everton v Villarreal tonight and should be out of the opening day. Harry was there, as said elsewhere. Rossi got a cracker I'm told, but won't be sold as they have blet too many stars go already.

[Update 380] Roger Morgan re: Modric
Date 13th August

I think it's true to say Harry would sell Modric now, Levy won't. I expect us to hear more of this in next week
When another poster claimed he didn't believe Harry would sell Modric, Archibald replied :

Spurs Mad- RM is right!
(RM obviously being Roger Morgan)

[Update 391] Roger Morgan on General Stuff
Date: 16th August
Site: SO

When asked whether:

1) Modric will join Chavs this window
2) we will sign a top class striker. I'm not worried it's just to get an understanding of why we get linked to soo many players without any final deal.
He replied:

1, I think that Harry is amenable to selling Modric to Chelsea if he gets the chance to spend the proceeds fast or if Chelsea put Drogba in the deal.

Harry prob won't be long here so Levy won't want to commit big fees and, more importantly, wages on players he thinks are 'Harry players' like Parker imho.

I think Levy intends to make Modric stay, at least until January, probably next summer, to make the point that we will not roll over just because a club with bigger resources thinks it can bully us into selling. I think Levy's view will hold sway and Modric will stay but it's only an educated guess.
I certainly hope that is how it pans out.

2 I think they will get a striker but fans will probably be split on whether it's the top class one we require. I can see how Adebayor would appeal to Levy if he gets City to pay a large chunk of the wages. Not sure City are happy selling to another Prem club but as the countdown to deadline comes we might be the best offer on the table.

I can see Palacios joining Stoke but not Crouch, who does not want to go there.

The reason we get linked to so many is that agents drive stories about their men across the media. It increases a player's profile hugely to be linked with top clubs.

If I was having a bet, I'd say we'll keep Luka, shift another four or five, bring in a centre-half, midfielder and two strikers by August 31, which will be a late night. Hope we don't screw it up again but transfers are a complex legal business.

Who we sign will be interesting because if Levy has lined up a Harry replacement - and it would be a mistake not to - you'd expect him to consult that chap about any imminent signings. Maybe this is why it seems to be a confused picture with Harry and Levy apparently at odds over targets.
