Andre Villas-Boas says Vlad Chiriches could lead a Romanian revolution at Tottenham

Spurs had scouts in attendance as Steaua lost to Chelsea 1-0 on Wednesday night to exit the Champions League, and the Portugese boss has admitted there is interest in bringing more Romanians to White Hart Lane.

He told talkSPORT: "There are a couple of Romanian players who are very interesting, particularly at Steaua [Bucharest], but I cannot mention them for obvious reasons.

"But I think there is always talent coming out of Romanian football. I think it’s always a market that we have to be aware of."

Spurs have been linked with a move for Steaua captain Alex Bourceanu in recent times and the 28-year-old has been called the Romanian Genaro Gattuso.

But it seems likely that Tottenham are also keeping tabs on a couple of rising stars with age on their side.

Nicolae Stanciu is an attacking midfielder who has impressed in the Champions League this season, and is adaptable enough to play on either flank as well as through the middle.

The 20-year-old has a £17m buy-out clause after signing a five-year deal with Steaua in March this year.

And Gabriel Iancu - who missed Steaua's best chance against Chelsea on Wednesday - is a 19-year-old left-sided attacking player who has previously had trials with Ajax.

Like Stanciu, Iancu signed a five-year deal with Steaua at the end of last year but has a buy-out clause set at £21m.

It now remains to be seen whether Spurs step up their interest in any of the trio in January or risk waiting until the summer when they could face greater competition from other clubs.

Re Latovlevic - according to the French press Monaco want him so I don't rate our chances, he's getting on and will probably have his head turned by the chance of a big payday. Solid performer without being a world beater.

Was just thinking about him but you beat me to it. He can also play out wide, has 2 good feet. Would be worthy a punt IMO.
Stuttgart have another player aswell, 17 year old Timo Werner, was well impressed today, they reckon he could make the WC squad.

I think we need more versatility with our wingers. We've got guys who really only can play at one position (Chadli, Siggy, Lamela - Shouldn't play on the left, sorry AVB, and Lennon). Maxim could provide us with some versatility. It might be at the cost of Siggy being sold, however. But Maxim would represent more pace at the winger position as well, something I do think we need.

I agree, I would sacrifice either Siggi or Chadli (though the jury is still out on Chadli, he needs more than 4 months to be deemed a hit or a non hit). Lennon got pace but need lots of space and can only really play effectively on the right.

Tottenham eyeing ‘next Gheorghe Hagi’

Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Steaua Bucuresti midfielder Gabriel Iancu, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

Spurs have already done business with the Romanian giants, having recruited centre-back Vlad Chiriches in the summer, and they are now being linked with his former teammate.

Gabriel Iancu is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Romania and has even earned comparisons with legendary player Gheorghe Hagi.

The attacking midfielder had come through the youth ranks at Vitorul Constanta, but was then snatched by Steaua after scoring 11 goals in 30 top flight appearances.

He has since featured in 20 league matches for the Romanian giants and scored a total of 2 goals, while adding as many in eight Champions League appearances.

The mere fact the player has a €25 million release clause in his contract is enough to suggest that Steaua chiefs see him as a future world-class player.

Tim seems to like Vlad, so maybe he is still looking into other Romanians?

AVB was a good scout, so unless he did it off his own back, maybe Tim has been given the same recommendations

If you're saying he likes Vlad because he's playing him it'll only be because we he e no one else to play at centre back at the moment. Verts comes back I wouldnt be surprised to see Vlad drop to the bench. But hey, I could be wrong.
