Surprised this hasn't already got a thread but thought it was worth a mention that probably the best striker I have ever seen in my life time has retired from football.

His record of 326 goals in 466 games at club level and 62 goals in 97 caps for Brazil which is bettered only by the legendary Pele.

To me he was the epitome of what a modern day striker should be.

Oh what I would give to have a player like Ronaldo at his peak in our side right now.

Ronaldo was amazing. Him along with Zidane and Messi were the three best players in my lifetime (22 years). It was a shame that his career went downhill, but what a player he was in his prime.

Responsible for one of the most inspirational comebacks in sporting history. After the 1998 final against France he was being labelled as having bottled it...only to completely dominate the 2002 world cup in style.

Incredible player.

As much as I love to watch Messi, for some reason nothing beats Ronaldo at his peak. Maybe because I was at school at the time and he was the player I looked up to and tried to emulate when playing.

Just to see him do his stepovers then ping one into the top corner with either foot with ease, LEDGEND

Yeah, and he's not close to the real Ronaldo.

Playing for Inter, AC, Barca and Real and having success at all of them says everything. Certainly the best out-and-out striker (and possibly player) of the modern era. Plus he wasn't afraid to confront society's prejudices by availing himself of the services of love-assistants with bonus working parts. Respect.

Incredible player. Not only did he have a fantastic touch, close control and amazing skill, he had immense power and rapid pace. He was unbelievable and I was completely in awe of him as a kid.

Absolute legend.

Simply the best player I have ever watched. Him and Zizou were my idols as an adolescent.

So sad the way his career has ended. Hounded out by his own clubs fans.

The best striker of my football watching lifetime.

He was simply world class. Unstoppable back in his prime, and a true Brazillian legend.
