LOL.

Looks like Everton engaged in some "re trading" (see blog link below).

According to the Telegraph, Everton and Swansea had verbally agreed to a £45m transfer for Gylfi Sigurdsson which Everton then tried to renegotiate.

"Re trading" is a phrase which astute SC members will recognise from dragon 1's ITK of July 8:

Only element of truth is that levy is beyond a nightmare to deal with on transfers with other clubs certain chairman will not deal with him and certain interested parties in club will not deal with him either they go over him.
Levy is not shy to do a re trade, he did it in fact a year before buying the club to sugar who told him to go f**k himself and it took him a year before sugar would deal with him again ,

That said, if anyone from Everton agreed to pay £45 million up front & immediately (as per the Kyle Walker transfer allegedly), then that person is an idiot.

You can't go over the chairman, Lewis has no say in the operations of the club

BREAKING NEWS

It is understood talks have broken down between Everton and Swansea over a deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

We understand a deal is now in jeopardy after more than five weeks of negotiations.

One source has suggested a verbal agreement was reached between the two clubs, only for Everton to withdraw the offer 48 hours later and refer back to a previous offer, understood to be around £40m.

There’s now a fear at Goodison Park that soured relations may scupper the process completely, seriously hampering Ronald Koeman’s and Paul Clement’s planned transfer dealings over the next three weeks.

Sky Sports News understands that the two clubs are less than £5m apart on a fee, with Sigurdsson’s wages not expected to be a problem.

As reported earlier, Spurs have a 5m (10%) sell on for Sigurdsson...

I doubt Barkley leaving hinges on Sigi. More likely they will just have to go to plan B or pay the difference...

Barkley wants out of Everton, he's going to leave regardless. Whether that's this year, or on a free next year.

The later it gets in the window, Everton will have to swallow their pride and realise it will be better for them to accept an offer now, rather than lose him for nothing.

At the end, it will not affect the deal. But IMO, will certainly affect when he is sold to us. I dont think Barkley comes to us, before Gylfi is bought

Maybe Ross has decided to stay?

or from an Everton forum;
I think if ross does leave and goes to a top 4 side like spurs. You'll see his stock rise. He'll be back in the england squad again and he'll be playing for a team that has his position built into the set up. Unlike here where we have to shoehorn him in on the right and give him a free role.

Koeman said it is 100% he will be sold, so I doubt it.

My tuppence:

Basically I reckon the breakdown is partially our fault.

If we didn't have the sell-on %age, Swansea wouldn't be demanding £50m.

They'd probably accept £45m as that's in essence what they're going to get anyway.

This means that Everton are essentially overpaying for Sig and ultimately discounting Barkley.

If they want £30m, we'd be getting him for £25m in essence.

Our sell-on clause may have had a quite unexpected effect.
