I agree that he'll probably sign for Chelsea, even though his preference is to join us. I can't see Levy paying £30m+ for a player with a serious injury who has less than 12 months on his contract. That's not a criticism, it's perfectly understandable. It's a indictment of how ridiculous this transfer window is that we're even countenancing it. Unlike us Chelsea can afford to pay what Everton are asking for, even if Barkley doesn't play until Christmas.

It's crazy isn't it. Arsenal fans spitting on £50m for Sanchez as a derisory offer despite him having 12 months left and no intention to stay. Drinkwater being priced £8m more than Kante went for last season. Everton should be snapping team's hands off for £25m in that situation.

Teams really need to stop using Neymar as a barometer, it wasn't even a transfer. If someone buys Messi at £400m does that mean all transfer values double again?!

Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected Chelsea because he didn't want to play at RWB apparently. Telegraph have been saying for weeks that they want both Drinkwater and Barkley.

Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected Chelsea because he wants to go to Liverpool apparently. He's no more likely to play in central midfield (where he is utter, utter turd) there than he is at Chelsea.

Barkely odds to us have massively moved out with Chelsea favourites.

If you doubt the bookies and think we will still sign him then theres decent money to be made.

Maybe they only rejected it because they know Barkley will turn them down? Could be Everton and Chelsea working together to get more from us. Maybe far fetched, but possible.
Or it could be Chelsea sending a warning shot across the bows of Leicester, for Drinkwater

Could be, although the Chavs were linked with Barkley, Ox-Cham AND Drinkwater. If the O-C deal is dead, they could be focusing on the other two. BBC is printing Twitter activity from Toffee fans who want a striker in to replace Lukaku, with a preference for Vardy. In which case they may need to seek Barkley to the highest bidder - which may not be us.

Interesting, Everton rather lose him for free than take what we're offering as he won't move anywhere else .

Silly from them. And with him badly injuried it really makes no difference to us as he wouldn't be fit before lamela even so would struggle to get into any kinda starting 11

If I was Everton I'd bite Tottenham's arm right off

Assume they are hoping someone else will come in for him and RB will be tempted. If he's set on us there's very little they can do. Silly game they're playing.

Ultimately Barkley will choose going to Chelsea over staying at Everton, so if we don't match Chelsea's offer then this one is over.

Odd as this seemed the most likely transfer of the window, and I hope we've got someone lined up instead of him as we obviously think it's a key position to sort out.

Perhaps seeing if we'll crack at10pm tomorrow and offer more.

I hope we don't, his useless for half the season anyway and then will be unfit. get him for free on pre agreement

Hercules in itk thread says unlikely to happen but still hope

The ITK also said a "wide forward" was "nearly done", and Barkley is not a wide forward.

So, being pragmatic, we may have now have an extra chunk of cash previously earmarked for Barkley available to get one of our deals for an attacking player over the line this window.

I agree with this. No matter how many people tell me he prefers Spurs, I simply can't see him turning down Chelsea if it's a case of that or nothing. Agents and clubs would be in his ear from all angles and that money/prestige is surely just too high. Massive respect if he doesn't though.

Some of the EFC ITK on the site that should not be named seemed to indicate if he didn't get Spurs he was prepared to wait out the year at EFC - especially with the injury. I'm not sure Chavs stand a chance. He wants us, well Poch. May be famous last words!

I still think they will inevitably cave to 25-30 million. I can't see them risking losing 20 million if this becomes a Jan transfer. Think something will happen really late tomorrow with this one - if his injury isn;t too serious.

Think they were relying on a) hoping to get a higher fee with manages wanting to get their squad together before the season start and b) hoping to get a bit of 'extra' money in the ridiculous transfer merry go round this summer. Inflated prices and that.

Pre agreement and sign in January in Holtby/Pienaar style would be ideal really, but I'd imagine the chance to go to the Chavs now for a pay rise may be too tempting....

If it's true that he won't be match fit until close to the January window anyway then it doesn't make a whole lot of difference to his World Cup prospects if he stays at Everton until the winter window.
