I cannot understand Everton's stance on this. You would have thought that they would have been very keen to let go of him considering his injury and the length of his contract.

Disappointing, but understandable. Hopefully the rumors of a new contract are just that and Poch has had a word and we'll be back in for him in January. But this could just be a ploy

SSN reported spurs not looking to sign barkley in this transfer window.
Why does this suprise anyone and why is everyone taking it at face value. Most likely negotiation considering we played the same game with sissoko and its what I'd expect us to say.

Unless they were convinced that if they kept him until the window closed he would sign a new contract

Rubbish if you ask me, or Just something Spurs have put out to force Everton's hand. They have no power in the negotiations at all. Sell now at a reasonable fee or lose the player for nothing. We hold all the cards here if the player genuinely wants us and only us. This has 10:59 PM written all over it. #Levytime

Everyone should have learned from the Berahino saga. Teams with players running down contracts will not be forced to sell on the buying club's terms any longer. Look at all these fees for players with 1-year left that actually have been sold. The television deal changed the landscape. Everton also has a wealthy owner now who is willing to invest in the squad. Everton also have had success convincing players running down their deals to sign contracts after it seemed they'd leave the club (Mirallas being the most prominent example).

Remember when it comes to SSN and any media on deadline day there is a good chance they'll fob a bit to create drama to up ratings/clicks.

Not saying they're wrong, but I bet in a few hours they'll say we're back in to keep the viewers watching.

Everton sold for 96m and bought for 132m.
Looks like that info that they needed money after signing Siggy was false.
A 36m net spend is nothing these days

Whether this info is false or not, it will be on/off at least once more with sky..they always do it. It's just a case of whether this news is bollocks or the inevitable 'revival of our bid' later is bollocks.

Never wanted him so personally I'll be happy if we got Gomes on loan instead as long as we get a pacey attacking player with Barkley money. Gomes or Barkley and no attacking mid with pace leaves us short in my opinion.

if he stays, Everton won't play him if he doesn't sign a new deal.

but if he's injured for most of this year, he could just wait until the Jan window.
