Well the mirror seems to think nobody else is in for him, didn't they say West Ham were in for him? Leave it a couple of days and they will dig up the old West Brom are sniffing around chestnut.
I think the reports mean serious contenders tbh. I'm sure more than half of the Prem teams would want him in reality. He in turn will need to want them.

My stepson is a lifelong Everton supporter. Two seasons ago he was raving about how good Barkley was gonna be but now he is not in the slightest interested whether he goes or not. We are all fickle. He impresses on his good days but just disappears a lot of the time. Is he lazy or is he being wasted by bad coaching and management. For £20m he could turn out to be a fantastic signing for us. Or he could be a player who never reaches his possibilities and fizzle away. I'd put a £10 on the former.

In fairness that sounds like the reverse of how I see/saw Dembele. Now he's a really good player but a few years ago I wasn't bothered about him (constant injuries/lack of consistency/frustrating on the ball/questions about hunger etc). He had his good spell with Sandro for a season but apart from that he annoyed me.

That must be down to the managers. A properly motivated, tactically astute Dembele is a great weapon for a team. If Barkley comes, then who better to learn off of than Poch and Dembele himself. Should that be who Poch thinks he could replace.

Although I guess Harry Winks seems to be being groomed for taking over from Dembele so what I've just written might well be bollocks!

We clearly know we are his best option and will therefore wait our time. No way he'll sign for West Ham if he knows we will move for him eventually. I see this as a deadline day deal.

Probably been said before in this thread and I know the reality of them ever happening is slim to never but surely a Sissoko swap deal is the perfect solution here.

They wanted him more than we did last summer and almost got him...if it weren't for those pesky yids...

i cant see them going back for Sissoko after turning them down last season, they seem to be in the market for better players now as well

This is what I have heard from Everton fans and seen for myself.

Too many touches when progressive passes could've been made and doing the hard thing when the simple is/was the more effective option, often slowing the game down when the opposite was called for. Can you coach someone to see things they don't see or to see them quicker? not sure that be coached.

At the height of their ire towards him, there were quite audible groans from the Everton fans when he was dawdling in possession.

Potential is there, but are we/Poch the right combo to bring that out...

Everton fans audibly groan if the assistant referee is wearing the wrong socks...

Well, I'll give it a shot. Lamela plays great pressing defense while Barkley has a reputation for being a bit lazy. I admittedly haven't seen him play enough to make that assertion but plenty of people make that comment about him.

At his age there's a lot that can be done to make him less lazy. And a claim like that needs context anyway, every single one of our first choice players can be accused of laziness at some point. Eriksen, Rose, Walker, Dembele, Lamela himself and even Vertonghen and Kane now show tenfold more commitment than pre Pochettino. Rose in particular was the sort of player who lost the ball high up the pitch and then just jogged lightly back into his own half.

I'd suggest yanks just doesn't want added competition for his favourite player, who despite offering many great qualities has yet to show after four seasons that he can regularly supply our attack with the necessary flair and creativity required, something which its debateable whether his offer the ball justifies. Context: Eriksen offers more on and off the ball.

that highlights vid was mighty impressive, yet live I barely noticed him apart from thanking him for fking about with it instead of putting Lukaku away in the first half...

I didn't know he could play deeper but clearly he can and will continue to fill out over the next couple of years and become more like Dembele.

for 20m, given his versatility, I want. I also want a right sided CB and King of Bournemouth, and for all three French AMs to be sold off. Thanks.

How much bigger can he get? You actually want him to put on weight? Will put Reid to shame

Tottenham to wait for Ross Barkley transfer fee to be lowered by Everton

Tottenham are prepared to wait for Everton to lower their asking price for Ross Barkley as the transfer window progresses, according to Sky sources.

Spurs are concentrating their early efforts in the market on a replacement right-back for Kyle Walker, should he leave for Manchester City, and a new No 10 - with Barkley their top target.

Sky sources understand Everton value the 23-year-old at £50m, despite Barkley having only a year left on his contract and indicating he will not sign a new one this summer.

Though Spurs have baulked at the fee, their interest in Barkley will remain until the deadline. However, it is understood the north London club will not rule out moving for a different target should an attractive deal present itself.

£50m was pretty laughable aswell, have Everton taken Levy on as a transfer consultant?

I think he'd be a decent signing, but wouldn't be too fussed if a fuckwitted club like West Ham took him for close to 50 million.

I do really wonder how we are going to compete for any player who can improve us in this window.

Reports may put us in the top 15 most valuable clubs in the world but the money all of the rest of them seem to be spending is utterly absurd. I saw yesterday that Liverpool were willing to pay £39m for Salah, for example. He's a good player but it's amazing how, in the space of only 2-3 years, players who would move for between 10-25 million are now suddenly commanding fees of at least £30m. I say at least because some are going for a hell of a lot more than that!

The issue we have is that our ability to spend has not increased, whereas others around us has significantly (especially on wages).

We won't spend £35m on Barkley (and nor should we) but if that's how much a player in the last year of his contract is going for, then I think getting business done early simply will not happen for us.

I mean, if you were a club or agent, you'd only stoop to Daniel Levy's value once you know for damn sure that the big spenders are not going to come in, wouldn't you?

It's going to be a frustrating few months watching our rivals spend big, and hoping it works out how we want it to. I'd imagine for Poch as well as us fans.

We have a much better team than most of our rivals to begin with and there is no guarantee that any big signings they make will make them significantly better than us. If we can keep the vast majority of our team together I don't think there is much to worry about.
