This is the key thing for me with the Barkley transfer. If he wants to come to us and progress under Pochetinno I'd welcome him with open arms (like most players tbf). He's defitnely good the toolset. If however he contemplates going to Chelsea, then I am not fussed by him in the slightest. It's a win win.

They're a risk in all this. It seems like young Ross is looking at the situation and wants to go where
- he'll get game time
- he'll develop
- among a bunch of guys he likes/knows from the England squad

All of which points to us rather than a club with a track record or ruining these types of players.

But if nothing has happened come deadline day, and he gets told he can earn 200k a week alongside 'promises' that he'll be different and will be played, he'll go there IMO.

I understand the lack of urgency on this one but I hope our lot aren't being complacent.

There's a lot of worrying about Chelsea but I really don't think we ought to be. Firstly, everything we've heard about this move (ITKs, Press, former players, etc) suggests that Barkley has a strong preference to move to us, not least because he (justifiably) believes Poch could finally be the manager who gets the best out of him. Secondly, Chelsea are likely to complete the Drinkwater signing this week. While not exactly the same type of player, they'll be well stocked at CM. I know there's a lot of paranoia about them doing things to deliberately sabotage us but I genuinely think that was more to do with Mourinho than the club.

At this point I suspect the only reason this won't happen is if we decide his injury issues prevent us from signing him this summer. I think those issues would have to be major though because we'll be aware that leaving it until January is very risky because it increases the competition we'll face (and the chance he'll sign a new contract)

Of all the conversations I have had in the last few months regarding Ross, I have not heard Chelsea mentioned once. Of course you can never rule out them coming in at the death with a wheel barrow full of cash, and if they did it might change things(but that is just speculation). As it stands Ross very much wants to come, and we are the only club(from what I am told) in the mix because of that. This is all about Everton now, but considering they have let us speak and negotiate with the player, I think it's fair to say this is far more likely to happen than not. As before you don't let a player get to the stage he is at with us unless a deal is on the cards.

Not for the RO.

no way it was solely Mourinho. Their acts/threats of sabotage are part of the fabric of that Club.

Telegraph and Guardian saying Chelsea meeting with Everton to discuss Barkley after their game.

Seems odd to me that both papers would release it at once. Makes me wonder if Everton have leaked this in the hopes of forcing us to make our move.

Also both mention that they hope to negotiate if the owners of Everton go to the game? Weird. Who plans negotiations only if the other teams ownera arrive? Makes no sense.

Barkey's desire to come to us has always been the key to this, and remains so regardless of who else is interested.

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Like they were waiting until after the Spurs game to bid for Rose.

True. But the window is coming to an end very soon. So maybe he's getting anxious and exploring other options as backup.
We better not lose Barkey for leaving it so late

If he truly wants to join us and feels that Poch can make him a better player, this isn't a problem.

If Barkley wants to come, then great I think all spurs fans would be encouraged to hear that, But if he's going to be out for 2/3 months should we be looking elsewhere ??
