Telegraph and Guardian saying Chelsea meeting with Everton to discuss Barkley after their game.

Seems odd to me that both papers would release it at once. Makes me wonder if Everton have leaked this in the hopes of forcing us to make our move.

But if Barkley won't accept their offer, what's the point?

Poch has charmed him, sure, but who's saying a meeting with Conte and 1.5/2x as much money wouldn't also?

Yes we've got ourselves into a strong position but it would be typical Spurs to miss out at the last minute, and typical Chelsea to wade in with a wad of cash to satisfy a sulking manager.

Chelsea can offer him more money, Everton already did that, what else they got?
I enjoy coming on these threads but I think I'm done with it for a few days too many miserable negatives sods for me and I've had it with the chelsea paranoia.

I want to be as optimistic as I can (see my posts in Martial thread), even though Spurs have taught me over the years to get ready for a kick in the balls whenever anything looks good.

My personal opinion is if we are too brazen about him being wrapped up it may well go tits up. Maybe we aren't trying to cheap out on it and it's Everton dragging in order to try and create a bidding war/be awkward but if it's as close as we hear, I'd rather we just try and push it over the line so we can concentrate on the other signings.

Chelsea have been linked to Danny Drinkwater this summer, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Considering how many talented young midfielders they've let go though, it'd be a bit of a pisser to put it mildly.

Hopefully Everton just running to the press yet again. Clearly want more pennies as they have all summer.

Could just be Chelsea playing the game with Arsenal over Oxlade-Chamberlain. They know he won't sign on, Chelsea want him for his ability to play midfield and RWB. Likewise, Barkley has apparently made it clear he's only interested in us. Could just be posturing by Everton to prompt Levy, to Chelsea to prompt Arsenal.

Grauniad reporting The Chavs want Drinkwater, Ox-Chamberlain as well as Barkley. Currently they have 36 players out on loan and as we saw Sunday, not exactly short of midfielders even with Fibreglass suspended.

I suspect they may be pushing at least one of those links for shits & giggles rather than any serious interest.

Based on the ITK i am staying optimistic but of course because we have been burned in the past late with Chelsea involved, the fear is always that it may go wrong. All i want is to see him holding the fkin Jersey. Not going to officially start panicking until Wednesday. If nothing is final by then i am hitting the bottle hard, cant handle deadline day deals.

I feel under whelmed about Ross now. Not because I don't think he will do well if he signs but the sheer length of time this thread has been open and the problems that have occurred.

If Barkley wants to come, then great I think all spurs fans would be encouraged to hear that, But if he's going to be out for 2/3 months should we be looking elsewhere ??
He'll probably sign a 5 year contract. A month or two when he first signed is nothing, the long term view should be taken.

It's teh same when people say we shouldn't sign a player because of the ACN when they were held in January. It's a few games every other year that they would have missed, why should that stop you signing them when they're goign to play ~100 between each tournament.
