Standard is bang on. Still possible under our terms. But "too much smoke for there not to be a fire". That is a message I received from as close as you can get to the situation.

From RB's barber?

Only kidding Herc. Thanks for the info. Even if it wasn't what we wanted to hear.

We need players to help our campaign starting in September. Dele is out for the first three very difficult Champions League matches. We are already 5 points adrift of United in the league and have a slew of very difficult matches in October and November and the manager has no faith in a number of our attacking players.

I cannot fathom how Barkley, a player who ended last season not playing particularly well and who isn't known for his off the ball work, is going to get himself up to speed quickly in January with Pochettino's system and fitness routine so as to break through and become a vital member of the squad this season. The more likely scenario I can envision is that for the first time in his career, he is exclusively a bench player with limited game time, who then becomes frustrated at the prospect of missing out on the World Cup.

Would Chelsea's pursuit of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Drinkwater not pretty much rule them out. Since OC is playing wingback for Arse, can't see Barkley being a replacement on their list.

So I suspect it's either £30-35m for a player who's injured until the new year, or £15-20m in January but risk allowing Chelsea a free run at him this week.

A great option for Poch if ross injury is as bad as reported, will be Sander Berge- a norwegian midfielder, who`s only 19 year and cost only $10 mill in euros.
This will be one for the future though, and not to have a immediate impact.
Great, great talent, and very spurs style.

Edit, a you tube vid for those interested.

The reality will be that if we've decided not to pursue this due to the injury then I'm sure we'd have decided a good few days back and it's only coming out in the media now - they're often meant to be a few days behind.

I like Barkley and think he could've been a great addition but if he's out for 6 months then there's no point doing the deal.

I'd rather we move for someone else and possibly end up with someone as good, if not better, that can actually play for us right away.

There would also be nothing stopping us moving for him in January when he'd be far cheaper - in theory.

Ah well, good thing we already have Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Son, Sissoko and Nkoudou for the 2/3 AM positions he could play so at least we're not short (y)
Do you really see Lamela coming back into the picture? I have given up counting on him. Not saying it will never happen, but don't want to build my hopes up for nothing.

Just watching ssn and they were talking about Renato Sanches maybe leaving Bayern. We should be all over that if the Barkley deal doesn't come off imo
