IT WOULD rank as the summer's cheekiest move - but Tottenham are set to make an audacious bid to land Ryan Giggs.

The 33-year-old Manchester United star is viewed as the ideal addition to take Martin Jol's young side forward.

Spurs are believed to have made an inquiry for the Welsh international during the January transfer window but the approach was rejected as United pursued honours on three fronts.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisted Giggs stayed. And both he and the player said at the end of the season that Giggs would remain for 2007-08.

Giggs has his eyes set on the club record for appearances set by Sir Bobby Charlton and Fergie realises that even though he may lack the searing pace that was once his hallmark, Giggs still has much to offer to United.

Spurs hope Giggs will see a move south as a challenging finale to a glittering career.

I have just seen this a nearly feel out of my seat with laughter. Giggs is a one club man and will only leave Utd when he retires from the game.

Giggs would never leave Utd in a million years. I'm sure he's got Charlton's all-time record of appearances in his sights.

Giggs leaving United, is like King leaving Spurs, Gerrard or Carraragh leaving Liverpool....I don't see it happening because there one man to one club players.

Now I was joking about this in a thread a few weeks ago,
if he were 5 years younger maybe yes.

He is a great and sucessful player with a season left in him.
Must be a multi-multi millionaire, as long as SAF doesn't get rid then he will end his career at MU

Might just be the stupidest rumour i have ever heard, might as well go for Paolo Maldini while we're at it.

It would be an amazing signing as Giggs is a true professional, loyal, very talented and has adapted his game to be as effective despite losing a step of pace and one of the best players to ever play in the premiership.

All reasons i'd love to ave and all the reasons SAF would never let him go

Two questions:

a) What are they smoking on the Mirror sports desk?

b) Where can I get some?

Or perhaps Pablo sold this one to them.

Best rumour of the window. Someone mentioned Maldini, and other than him I'm struggling to think of a player we're less likely to sign.

Would be a good signing. Would add experience to our relatively young squad. But still, it wouldn't happen imho. :duh:
