TOTTENHAM WANT MALAGA ACE SANTI CAZORLA AS LUKA MODRIC REPLACEMENT

ABOVE: Tottenham want Malaga ace Santi Cazorla as a replacement for Luka Modric

TOTTENHAM want Malaga ace Santi Cazorla as a replacement for Luka Modric, according to reports in Spain.

Although the 27-year-old only joined Malaga from Villareal last summer, he is thought to have fallen out with club bosses over unpaid wages.

And Spurs are apparently monitoring the situation as they prepare to offer the Spain international close to £2million per year to move to White Hart Lane, reports Spanish newspaper AS.

Chairman Daniel Levy will have to dig deep for the versatile midfielder, with Malaga looking to recoup at least the £16m they paid for Carzola a year ago.

But the two-footed star is still likely to prove a cheaper alternative than original target Joao Moutinho.

Tottenham's transfer kitty is also soon to be boosted by the £35m fee they are determined to get for wantaway star Modric.

The Croatian is set to return to Spurs training today, but is still determined to push through a move to Real Madrid.

Both player and club are hoping that a deal can be finalised before Spurs jet off to America for a pre-season tour later this week.
Couldn't see a thread for this fella...thoughts?

Don't know much about him, anyone know if he'd be a viable alternative or if it's just Levy trying to get the price down on Moutinho?

id want him more than any other alternative that has been mentioned. Considering he plays for a team owned by qatari billionaires it doesnt sound like his wages would be overly prohibitive either.

Excellent player, although I'm pretty sure he plays on the right wing or in VDV's position. Not sure he can play the box to box CM role Moutinho does.

Also, JJ is not 100% right. No ITKs are.

In playing style he's closer to Silva.

From Zonal Marking:

"Possibly the signing of the season, despite the significant transfer fee. Cazorla swapped Villarreal for Malaga – and as Villarreal went from fourth to 18th, Malaga went from 11th to fourth. He’s not the only reason, of course, as Malaga have shelled out other star names, but his consistency over the course of the season has been highly commendable. He’s not particularly fast and doesn’t score many goals from open play, but his positioning and movement marks him out as one of the most intelligent players around—he’s selfless and precise with his passing, and also one of the best free-kick takers in Europe."

we miss out again quelle suprise! quality player with a brain .. was always arsenal over us.. personally love a player who plays between the lines and adds imagination to side. we are so predictable in our play that having a player or two like cazorla would be fantastic.

Agreed, we need a Silva/Cazorla of our own..

I thought Malaga ruled out the sale and said the rumours of financial troubles were exaggerated?

Officials at Arsenal told my colleague this was practically done yesterday. They are looking to announce it when they get back from tour. That guardian article is almost word for word what I was told 24 hours ago.

Those of us keen on Spurs signing him seemed to be in the minority. Sadly. Doesn't look as if the club even glanced in his direction. Maybe he had already decided to go to assnal. Shame, whatever happened. He's a very good player and would have been a very capable replacement in the middle 3.

If that is true then I am truly gutted. He is one my favourite players.

A midfield of Song, Wilshere and Cazorla is possbily the best in the league

A sad sad day

The fact that we don't seem to rate Corzola and Sahin scares me to no end. It's like Harry all over again, not wanting to take a chance on anybody. Who the heck do we rate? Wait don't tell me because Chelsea will try and sign him just to fuck with AVB

Hehe. Maybe. Sahin and Cazorla are quite clearly good enough to play for the mighty Lillywhites. This does assume that either would have been the tiniest bit interested playing for us. The club may very well have put out feelers and been given a thanks but no thanks.

In the case of Sahin - who knows. Sahin, as best as we can tell, didn't seem enamoured at the prospect of signing for us. Maybe that's changing and maybe the club are working to change that. We just don't know.

Sahin would be a simply outstanding signing, imo. He's a much better player at 23 than Modric was, imo. Tried and tested and already a driving force in a title winning team in one of Europe's best leagues. I would find it incredible if those at the club don't see the positives in him as a player. Equally, it wouldn't be a great look if we tarted ourselves up in bright red lippy and fishnets and went chasing him publically, only to be given the brush off.

What little we can tell from the ITK seems to suggest that aside from Carvalho and other scrubs, the club seems to be asking for money only for Modric. Leads me to suspect that the Sahin thing is dead in the water, for whatever reason.

I would also not ignore his age. I think Levy is moving back into buy em young mode (with expections for someone like Ade if they're cheap and we're buggered for options). The merits of which is a debate whose place isn't here, but suffice to say that there are storng justifications for a club of our size to take that road.

This is even assuming he would have come to us, which we can't be sure of. Maybe we asked his agent and got told no. In which case why waste time bidding. Who knows. Sad as I'd really have liked him. But I've watched football long enough to know that there are always cracking signings to be had, if you know where to look (and don't have chelsea nick them)
