This has been on the cards for a while now. I had high hopes for him after his first season at such a young age. Whether Poch doesn't rate him or he didn't fit in I'm not sure but feel Schalke have got a player with a lot of potential. Hope we did well financially out of it, and of course, the very best of luck to Nabil and his family, really hope it works out for you mate.

The training centre and academy have certainly made the money back we invested in it.

I could think of a couple of our squad that i wished they'd have taken first.

I always rated this guy. Remember him as the key midfield driver in this game.

Not sure why he fell out of favour. Had more movement and quicker ball movement than Dembele has now.

Doesn't sound like it was his ability that was the problem.

Anyone can turn it on for one game. And that he could do it when he wanted to made his departure all the sadder because he certainly did not display that same drive in every game.

Mentality is 90% of every player yet we still only judge them on what we see in the odd game. Its comical. That's why we just have to trust Poch and not use it as an excuse after a poor result.

Shame but attitude problem cut into his growth as a player, wouldn't pick him ahead of any of our four current squad cm s. Some money recouped in the context of the questionable outlay on ms and vj, possibly GKN too.

He would have left if he made it big with us and the typical **** clubs came calling. I did rate him though, he will be a top player.
That being said, we can't have those type of players around no matter how good they are/can be. We need to cut loose players who see us as a stepping stone club if we truly want to be giants again.

Could not agree more. But was it common knowledge that his attitude was the problem. Always remember the players rating him very highly for his work rate in training and his win at any cost attitude. Was it money?

It was money, he kicked up a stink because he wanted a more lucrative contract when he was already tied down for a number of years (so it's not like he wanted the contract to stay here longer).

I think the club thought it would set a bad precedent to be giving into his demands so early in his tenure with us, a foreshadowing of what may have come probably. I think we made the right decision.

To go from un-droppable to un-pickable so quickly he must have pissed Poch off. Glad Poch doesn't tolerate anyone creating a bad atmosphere however much ability or potential they have.

If that was the case, then he was hanging around with the wrong advisors. Very sad. Could have been with a top 4 prem team or a mid level team in the Bundesliga. Clearly not the best choice from a professional point of view.

Always remember him in that Spurs 2 Arsenal 1 game because when he crossed for Kane to head in, his next move was not to go celebrating wildly but was to run over to Poch immediately for tactical next steps. I thought that was very mature and demonstrated very good leadership. Plus his ability to dictate tempo, physical build for such a young guy, coolness under pressure in tight areas, and even decent output in the final third. Thought he had all the right attributes for a Poch player. Shot himself in the foot really. But overall hope things work out and wish him well. Can't really judge a someone for finance requirements. Everyone could use a few extra bucks so good luck to him and his family.

Unfortunately I cant agree with the stepping stone thing. I wouldn't like that to stop us having a top player for a season or two if they decided it was what they needed at that time. Sometimes (ala Gareth Bale) a player doesn't really know how far he can go until he hits hit the purple patch and top clubs start to court them. Saying we have been used as a stepping stone or where isn't clear cut.
