Watch tomorrow, you can see what I mean. At times Parker plays more advanced than modric; which is not desirable at all. Why have you most defensive midfielder furter forward and your most creative further back. This goes to show that i'm not hatin' on Parker, i'm just being analytical about how he affects our play.

I don't agree that Modric is our most creative player-I reckon it's VDV-but I hear you barking. I will have my binoculars at the ready. For what it's worth, I really dislike watching Modric in a cm2.

I have been thinking to myself that VDV goes looking for the ball because he gets fed up waiting for it to come to him but I have been unable to put my finger on why this might be the case. One of the reasons I didn't want Parker was because I thought he was too limited on the ball but in the first few months of the season, I felt the need to revise that opinion. At the moment, I think there could be something in what you're saying here. I will have to keep a closer eye on it.

I suspect you can't have seen too much of VdV prior to his arrival at Spurs. By your own admission, you hadn't seen much of Parker.

I said our most creative player in our midfield 2, since I consider VDV to play in the attack. Oh and spurs since57 I have had a personal interest in VDV since he played for Ajax so I do know who he is. Also funny enough my mothers cousin is Married a distant relative of his. I have met that side of the family once before in 2000 and again in 2004, i've never met rafa at all but i've always wanted him at spurs. The closest thing I have had to interacting with him was when I was told by his cousin (Chelsea fan) that according to Rafa they would sign Kalou (So third hand information from Rafa). Players like him excite me and I would consider Rafa our most creative player in the team.

If Parker where played in a midfield 3 he could act as the box to box destroyer; as long as we had someone deep to pick out the passes and link defence with midfield, and someone advanced that could link midfield with attack. In a two man midfield parker's lack of passing ability or vision to pass forwards makes modric and VDV play deeper . This limits our ability to react quickly in stretched games before the opposition regroup their defensive positions. We smashed teams with Hudd and Modric in CM as we were able to get them quickly on the counter; look at the inter milan game to see probably one of our best performances which included using all both Hudd and Modric in midfield alongside Jenas or VDV as the AM. We won that game using our quick breakaways. How many do you see us score nowadays?

Again, PB, you have been decidedly selective in your use of examples and their interpretation. You cite one half of football as an example of a successful system, and ignore the fact that our performances on the handful of times Huddelstone and Modric played together were amongst the worst we have played in the last three years and their record together is decidedly iffy.

It assumes the preference for playing sit deep, hit teams on the break, conceding possession football. In general, I can't think of a single team who have made this a basis of sustainable truly successful football.

I might grumble about our inability to do certain things at times - mostly work off the ball, but we've been playing much better football for most of this season than we ever did with Modric and Huddlestone as our cm2.

We are controlling the ball better for longer, moving it quicker and more incisively. When Sandro's back we have a pretty perfect midfield 3. All dynamic, but with different skill sets. And Parker is much better with the ball than you portray him.

Parker is still not enough a creative force to warrant playing in a two. We conceded possession with Hudd and Modric in a two against teams like chelsea and arsenal because we were simply outnumbered, nothing to do with the personnel. We need to play 3 in CM nowadays anyway as everyone else does and going 2-3 immediately concedes possession to the opposition. I would have Sandro/Hudd/Modric as my three. Besides I think that all three offer a lot more than Parker towards possession football with intent to attack or the speed/initiative to switch defence into attack. But we also have a solid base too.

i dont know what those diagrams and statistics are about

but i do know that he dragged our team up and forward after the first couple of games.

he may well have (in fact he has) slowed down since december - understandable since he had given 120% for 3 months.

but you cant criticse him - he is still a leader on the pitch and if sandro plays who replaces parker? jake will in time but hes not ready yet.

I love Hudd, but not in a midfield three ahead of Parker, or any midfield, ever!

Parker has given us so much this season, we can't play two progressive midfielders in a central two, and when it comes to the more defensive CMs, you go a long way to find better than Scotty.

I'd love to see Hudd in a midfield 3. I remember certain fans loving O'Hara when he was playing at Pompey in a 4-5-1 and saying how much better he was than Hudd who had been playing in a 2 and helping us beat the arse and chelski in consecutive games. Hudd in a 3 with someone else holding could be great to watch.
