The 2019 finalists this week return to the competition for the first time in two seasons, hosting Marseille in their opening group game.

He probably is still scarred after what we did to City at the 2019 quarter finals.

It’s very difficult to produce any logic or history to support what I suppose was a throwaway answer to a journo-question.

Conte’s relentless high-speed system is very effective at railroading smaller clubs with weaker squads in the league, but he - and we - need a lot more Eriksen-type guile and composure when we play experienced European competitors.

Perhaps if we’re still in the competition in January, Paratici can address that in time to win a knockout match or two.

Part of this thought process might be the strength of English football compared to the other leagues currently. The past few years have seen numerous Premier League teams go far in the competition - '19, '21 and '22 each saw two make the semi finals at least.
