Has anyone here ever sat in Block H or in a restricted seat in general? I'm in one for the West Brom game and I'm wondering how 'restricted' the view actually gets

I think they get marked as restricted when you cant see one or both of the goals.

The pillars are a right pain really but you should see most of the game from those blocks.

i usually sit in block h and it's not too bad. the far right pole only blocks the corner flag at the paxton/shelf end so not really an issue, the other is towards the centre circle but you quickly get used to it and almost forget it's there.

Its fine, I usually get one of those seats for the top priced games... much cheaper and you only miss a third of a goal mouth.

Blame Sugar. He wouldn't pay to have the roof countilevered during the east stand conversion. Tight bastard.

Could be a lot worse. I once went to a game at Stamford Bridge as a mate invited me on the cheap last minute tickets he got and saw almost nothing. I can't believe people actually would do that more than once. Mind you the game was probably the world's most boring ever so there was nothing worth seeing anyway

I got season ticket in East lower, which they say is "restricted view" cos of the big Blue pillar but it's only in the way when someone is taking a corner and only for a split second. I don't consider it restricted view at all, so don't worry about it kenTHFC

I've been directly behind the other pillar in the East stand a number of times and quite enjoy jumping either side of it.

Although when Walker scored the winner to make it 2-1 vs the scum a few years ago I ended up headbutting it and almost needing a couple of stitches.

I think it was done before Sugar. I remember reading something he said or wrote about why the fuck did we build a new /updated stand with big bloody pilars.

Correct. I think it was the 89/90 season and iirc it wasn't ready for the start of the season and we were subsequently fined as a result.

I may put a bet on, who's going to score them?

Instead of making a new thread, I`m posting my question here (if it is inappropriate to post that kind of question here, I appologize): When you`ve got tickets from Thomas Cook your seat is normally at East stand upper og West stand upper. If you don`t fancy those seats, is it possible to exchange the ticket(s) on the black market? Are the sellers on the streets normally keen on doing deals like that, and are these black market-tickets usually safe to buy? Or a lot of false copies maybe? Risky business? Where are normally the ticket salesmen hanging?

He deserves to be blamed even for the shit he didn't initially cause. But he saved us you know. Ha.

Can i have history lesson? I have heard a lot about our money troubles in the late 80s but I also know we had a great team late 80s and came closeish to winning the league. What happened to put us in such peril?

Liverpool got all English clubs kicked out of Europe. That ducked us.
Irving Schoeler then pretty much bankrupted us.
Then Manchester United "happened"
Before the premier league we beat them to players like Gazza and Lineker.
As Fergie started to pick up in and around 1990-92 the tide swung monumentally and we got left behind.
Sugar gets stuck but he stopped the rota, kept the boat afloat and sold to a real custodian.

Never forget when I took my parents to their first Spurs game. Both old and frail with walking sticks. I said to the ticket man please can you have us somewhere near the exit as my parents are old and don't like heights (It was a Europa game). So what did they do? They stuck us up with the Gods in the very top row and my mum was terrified the whole game and couldn't even get up when we scored. I even had to go down and get her a tea!

We were never really in contention for winning the league in the late 80's. We finished 3rd in the 89/90 season, but Liverpool we're too good then.

As for Irving Scholar, his heart was in the right place, but made some bad decisions.

The irony is he was actually ahead of his time in a lot of ways. We were the first club I think to float on the stock exchange and embrace the commercial and merchandising angles. He just executed it badly and it all went tits up.

Sugar did save us ( although he made a fat profit out of it and didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart). To his credit he did at least sort out the mess left by Terry Venables and gave the FA a bloody nose when they were threatening sanctions against us though.

The problem was just as the PL, Sky and the influx of foreign stars were changing the landscape of English football we refused to get with the programme and we got left behind. A lack of investment and some awful managerial appointment, coupled with awful PR on his part allowed us to go from one of the "big five" to just also rans pretty quickly.
