So what was really wrong about Jol?

Sorry to raise the dreaded J word, but a good Spurs mate can't stand Redknapp or Jol. But he has never explained his position conviningly.

It's a bit too early to be calling time on Harry; I'm sure he'll get us out of this mess and might even win a cup or two.

So without wanting to attract a Jol love in, I want to know what Jol didn't do for us; why was he not good enough for Spurs; why this firm belief that dumping him was the right thing to do. And please don't rely on the poor start to the 2007/08 season; the decision was made back in the summer 2007.

Why bother with this ????? Well if what Jol had wasn't good enough then what is? How long can any Spurs manager last? So far it's 19 in Sir Alex's time; 9 in vinegar's time.

The one mistake Jol always made was he tried to shut up shop when we'd dominated early on and got ourselves ahead allowing the opposition to press forward. It cost us a few vital results and kept us out of the top four.

I miss the big man but I rate Redknapp.

Jol was great, but if I am suggesting possible reasons why someone might not like him, then maybe:

His substitutions were sometimes odd and negative

We dropped very deep and tried to close out games when we could have buried some teams

Defensive fragilities, especially preventing crosses and at set pieces

People didn't like when he played 4 central midfielders

You'd have to ask Levy about that one.

As far as I was aware Levy and Co always saw him as a stand-in, an inbetweener, and they were looking at getting somebody with a bit more clout in the trophy cabinet side of things.

Also, the rumour was that Jol had gone to hear an offer from Newcastle.

Once the results had not gone our way the preliminary enquires about Ramos turned to serious offers.

Ramos accepted and Jol was out.

Had we have started '07 with a a more positive string of results we probably still have Jol around now.

I still believe that he is the only manager for this club despite that rocky season, and Redknapp has hardly set the world alight, but he needs the players to stand up for themselves.

Once a bit of rot sets in at a club it can take years to get it washed out, shame it happened after such positive finishing with Jol at the helm.

The pain of the last two seasons league performances is difficult to bear sometimes, but if you have supported Spurs as long as I have then you should be wise to that feeling by now.

Unfortunately, if you are a board member you have to do right by shareholders and always go for the best option for business, that 's what the whole Jol replacement was about really.

It's just business to some people.

I don't think that any fans really wanted him out, but perhaps a few did agree with Levy's choice once Jol had been found out.

Many thought he couldn't take us to the next level.

I'm not too sure either, because he eventually lost the dressing room and when he couldn't get it back he was doomed really.

For the record, I think he should have stayed.

Spent £40m and one win from 10 games... that one win against Derby (the worst team ever in the league) at home.

the 2-2 at whl against arsenal in the league cup too.

not to mention getting back to 1-1 in the return leg, then capitulating in extra time.

Going out of the cup to grimsby and leicester - the latter after being 2-0 up

I forgot about that! And that was the season we almost finshed 4th. We only did so well in the league because we were knocked out of both cups straight away.

3-1 up at chelsea in the cup to then draw 3-3 and lose at home sums it up for me

Was that 3-1 up against a Chelsea we only beat once in the last 16 years until Jol came along?

And was that the same Chelsea that had won the league?

And the same Chelsea which were managed by a certain special someone?

And was that at Chelsea with 45 mins to go?

You have to be real about this, we didn't really think we could pull it off anyway, and to be fair I don't know how we beat them at Wembley either to following year.

Losing to Chelsea may piss me off but I could think about all the losses to "lower" teams that made things worse.

If we only lost to the big four and won the rest we'd win the league.

I'm not even going to quote what you said Kendall, because that's just knob talk.

Go screw yourself, the man deserves better than spiteful shit like that.

You'll be telling me that Burkinshaw was toss next.....

I have plenty of good things to say about Jol, but that's not what the thread asked for

Losing 3-0 to Arsenal in the 2006/07 season at the Emirates, one of the worst performances I've seen from us.

Losing 3-1 last season at home against the scum

It may not be what the thread asked for but why wallow in past miseries?

We were all there when they happened at the time. You weren't the only one y'know...
