Is it me, or does the whole club just stink at the moment ? We lost our best player in a generation, and in all, honesty replaced with a bunch of average players with little heart in the club. We have let go of our English core (admittedly, at the right time in their careers), but not replaced.

Watching us last night, we could have a moan about certain players, tactics, style of football, etc, but we seem completely bereft of passion. It has almost become a chore to watch us.

We seem to be treading water with the level of investment by our owners (lowest net spend over 5 years). The players brought in this summer all seem 'ok' but not ones that amaze or grab you. Should we not go back to basics from 2004/5/6/7 and start buying young British players again ?

In all honesty, whether we think Poch is the right man or not (I would have gone for De Boer), he has one hell of a job on. To me, the portents are not good.

There are many mistakes that I regret, Not signing a striker during the CL years when we missed out on CL two seasons in a row by just one point for instance. But I do get tired of reading the whole "we sold our best player" routine. Bale is one of the best players in the world. It's ludicrous to think we could have retained him once he decided he wanted to move. We cannot pay what the top players earned and could not give him CL football - which he then went on to win in his first season away from us.

So really, let's stop with the tired old "sold our best player" line.

The real questions arise from the players who were brought in to replace him and whether or not we had a strategy....and further whether or not AVB got the players he wanted. I think a lot stems from that. It was clear to see in Bale's final year how we relied so much on him and how crucial it was to not just replace him, effectively, but Modric as well. Now, for whatever reason that has not come to pass and now three managers in a row are having to trying and work with the squad that was built for that purpose. This squad struggles to put in impressive performances, often looks disinterested and shows signs of regression. Fans have been spoiled in recent years with big wins and our CL campaign. Now that it is gone, they feel frustrated. I wouldn't call that a stink. It's just something every club goes through some time or another. Imagine how Man U fans feel. All those titles and now under three successive managers they look like a clown outfit. I think that, much like them, we have a root problem with the squad and the attitudes therein that needs to be solved, and that not nearly as much of it is down to managers and owners and people might think.

he does raise some interesting points despite all the negrep. However Bale was always going to go, nothing would change that, I do think we altered our plan at some point as we stopped bringing in players domestically from the championship and below and seemed to have decided there was better value across europe however based on what i've seen i'm not convinced this to be true.could be just bad luck/poor scouting or a combination of the two. We did look better last night once we had some young english hungry players on the pitch.

Under Redknapp the stars aligned and we punched above our weight. Success wise we have sunk back to our natural level; that is not a problem with Spurs, so much as the structure of British football, which is essentially a cartel.

The disappointment is the performances. I am not advocating blood and thunder, but the lack of heart is resulting in sterility. Abandoning the buy British/develop youth template set by Arnesen has contributed to that: there are too many carlos kickaballs just passing through. Tactics also play a part: I think Poch's tactics could be entertaining, but without the players to implement them it is all too reminiscent of the nadir we reached under AVB.

The biggest stink about the place is the moany fans. In fact you could say the same about the whole country: people who are always complaining and blaming someone else...

In the match thread at the weekend I was heavily negged when I said people shouldn't boo at games or leave early. Then I see threads like this where there's a "stink" about the club.

Not hard to work out why is it?

What?!

Everything is super!

You will learn like I have done that you cant possibly question Levy or ENIC on here!

Everything is awesome....

You can question, you can offer your opinion, but you'll be questioned in turn, and people will offer their opinions. What you might find though is that people get a bit tired of whinging fucks going on and on about the same tired gripe when in fact it isn't that bad, and in lots of ways it's actually pretty good!

Question in a measured, reasonable way instead of hysterics seems to be the one to go, no?

Too many fans fall back on lashings of hyperbole, which they pass off as a sort of "real voice of truth", when, in fact, their actual opinion is getting buried under all the dramatics.

To sum up jimbo's opinion, it is that ENIC should be Abramovich, and until they metamorphose into him he's going to whinge about it.

Personally I think we lost our eye for talent under Baldini. It is said that Baldini talent is getting deals done where other people in his position fail. Well, that's all well and good, but only of you're negotiating for the right player.

I think Iam Broomfield and Commoli were better judges of up and coming players and talent. I am hoping that with Broomfield now back he will combine with Baldini effectively. Of course, the problem we have now is getting rid of players, which nobody seemingly wants, before we can start filling up the squad with new prospects.
