I was watching the Utd/City game today and was thinking about how hard it will be to get into the top 4 this year now that City look even stronger, then it hit me.

In pretty much every game vs City, Pool, Chavs, Utd and Arse we either won, played very well(to an extent outplayed them) or got screwed by refs.

Tevez was City, without him they are screwed, Dzeko etc can do what they like but the midfield imo is average in that side. We have outplayed them the past 3 or 4 times we have played them.

Liverpool are still not all that, i don't think they are title challengers yet as many would say, certainly good enough to aim for 4th though.

Arsenal seem weaker, especially if they lose Fabregas. His stats speak for themselve.

Utd will win the league imo but if we get that Striker we will beat them head to head imo at least at the Lane(about time if we do).

Chelsea are getting older by the year, another new manager, new routines etc could easily go wrong for them this year.

Had we taken 10 points off the bottom 3 last season we would have come second(i think). IMO that says everything about how good we are.

We are good enough to challenge for the title, the media can go on about everyone else all they want, we know how close we are, 1 decent striker away.

Thought some of us needed reminding of that.

Something Man City will have to deal with, like we did last season, is coping with how teams play against you once you're "top 4" - teams may very well come and park the bus and look to hit you on the break.

Let's hope City get caught out by that. A LOT! Like we did. Though we were very much a soft touch at times, as per usual...

But you make good points mate.

The usual pre season optimism I see. I'll reserve my judgement for a while but I feel that our defenders are always liable to ship a few goals and without some good goalscorers we will probably struggle to break down some teams. However we still have a great squad so I'm confident we can challenge for top 4

man city are absolutely shit. one decent player in silva, aguero might be good. they might on paper have big name inidividuals but thats all they are. they dont play as a team and play rubbish football. if we can sign at least one striker i have no doubt whatsoever of finishing ahead of them and even without that striker i wud be pretty confident

Obviously my opinion on us being right up there is 100% dependant on us either getting a striker or one of our strikers becoming good.

Watched it, enjoyed it , especially the result which was the right one.
City got lucky with their goals and on another day
would have had at least two players sent off.

Da Silva outstanding but only touched the ball a couple of times
in the second half until the last ten minutes.

If Dawson or Gomes had made the kind of errors on display
this thread would have been 15 pages long.

Man. Utd look a formidable force and are rightly favourites for the league.
Carrick played very well too in his usual calm way.
Nani's first goal was beautiful to watch.

Agree with this JimmyG2, I thought City were terrible until they scored, then terrible again in the second half. They have some very good individuals, mostly Silva and Tevez is obviously very good in the Prem, but they are not a very good team.

Of the top six, here's how we compare (to me, at least).

We have the 5th best goalkeeper.
We have the 3rd best defence.
We have the 2nd/3rd best midfield.
We have the 6th best strikeforce.

All we need is to improve our strikers and we're perfectly capable of challenging for the top four.

United were a class above - City still have a way to go to properly push them. They just dont pass and move the football anything like United.

Infact without Silva, who is a lovely footballer, they look like a Rugby league side on steroids

I totally agree, the United side looked like team whose members work for each other. athey looked classy to-day (especially in the 2nd half)

City looked like what they are a group of individual players who don't seem to know/care what each other are doing

Who the fuck do you think you are !!!!!

How dare you come on here and be all optimistic and stuff!!! I mean "no strikers", "Levy die", "sack Harry", "Carlton Cole" !!!! Thats the kind of stuff you are supposed to be writing here on Spurs Chat.....oh yeah and "All our rivals have strengthened loads and loads and loads and loads" !!!

So yeah, how dare you come on here and post a thoroughly decent and upbeat post. As you punishment I shall damn you with some rep :duh:

So what does that make us if we finished below them last season?

People saying City are shit are absolutely delusional. They are a major rival to us and, fuck's sake, they beat us to fourth last year, can't we now begin to take them seriously?

I think that City need to solve two problems. One is Mancini, a good manager, but in the hands of one of the top managers City could win the league in the next couple years.

Also, I think that the club suffers from players who are mercenary...in that a lot have signed because of big money. But this won't always be the case. Some of these players will want to, or learn to, play as a team to actually win things.

It's only a matter of time, IMO, before they become a major powerhouse. I think they are more of a threat to us, and to all the top four contenders, than Liverpool, the scum or even Chelsea. I also think it's only a matter of time before Man U start to weaken and Fergie gets too old.

All this "city are shitty" talk comes from Spurs fans deluding themselves that we can compete with them. We can't. Our competition comes from the other top four contenders.
