So, do we really want such a player who's willing to let his team down to foce a transfer to Spurs? Or is such behaviour justified simply in the case of Spurs only but not the other way around (i.e. a player boicotting training because he wants to leave Spurs?
So many fans are stil upset abut the "sulking" of Berba and, to a lesser extent (it seem) Modric and Bale....while the sulking about Carrcik is hardly there..

Bayer Leverkusen boss Roger Schmidt criticised Tottenham target Son Heung-min after he sat out their crucial Champions League qualifier.

News of Tottenham's interest in Son broke on Wednesday, with the South Korea forward skipping training as a result ahead of the second leg of Leverkusen's play-off against Lazio.

The German side turned around a 1-0 deficit to progress to the group stage courtesy of a 3-0 win, but Schmidt was not happy about the unnecessary distraction.

"Son is a great player who has actually got not really good advice," Schmidt told television channel Sport1.

"He has decided to do something that was not so nice for us as a team. It was not ideal. But it was even more important that we get into the Champions League, but we had to deal with it."

Son's team-mate Hakan Calhanoglu backed up his manager's comments, adding: "I think it's just a pity that he is ill advised by his dad or agent, just before so a game like against Lazio this did not have to be."

Calhanoglu also revealed he had called and texted Son when he did not appear for training, but did not receive a response.

He added: "He is a great kid. I look forward to any event, if he comes back and said goodbye to the team, if he goes away, we definitely lose a very good player."

Except that they're not out of context though are they? They're new, and completely relevant to everything being discussed.
Okay, out of context wasn't the right phrase, but the translation doesn't help. It seems to me they're disappointed, as you might expect them to be, rather than slagging him off personally.

No I know, they're not slagging him off, but the fact that he hasn't responded to them and that they think he's being poorly advised, by his father, is the bit that concerns me

What behavior exactly? He was ill anyway so wouldn't have played either way

Perhaps, for all we know, he got back to them after the game. We was probably busy going over the details of his move. We've had players do worse to engineer a move away from the club - Modric, Berbatov, Bale - and I bet we'd welcome them back in a heartbeat. It's modern football. It's not pretty but hardly surprising.

I can only assume that sorting out a deal with spurs, doing the medical, travelling, arranging moving home to a different country might prevent him from having time to communicate with exteammates.

I know he is injured (apparently) but he's - if believing those 2 quotes - "disappeared" from training without notice. However, there may very well be another side of this story....

It's pretty clear he didn't just get on a flight to London without permission. The higher ups at Bayer knew where he was at all times. It's just his team-mates that didn't know the situation so it happened all of a sudden for them.

Tbh if he wants to leave and his club has agreed to sell him, why would he A) risk injury or B) be in the frame of mind to play for a club he knew he was leaving? I'm sure Spurs would've been pushing for him to not play as well.

The Times are reporting he had a £16m release clause that only expired this summer, it does beg the question that if we wanted him why didn't we make our move sooner. The £4-6m overspend could have paid what WBA want for SB

Well, if we're to believe the sources which say he had a medical initially on Tuesday, when he wasn't at training, you'd have thought between then and the time of the interviews after the match last night, he might have found 1 minute to reply to a text or pick up the phone, but nevertheless, apparently I'm crazy according to the ratings I'm getting on my initial post  But anyway, still excited about his arrival

Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt: "Heung-Min Son has decided he no longer want to play for us."
I tend to wait for the official announcement but the above quote, if accurate, is about as definite as you can possibly get that he is leaving them and coming to us.

But anyway, still excited about his arrival, and it does seem to be common practice these days to engineer a move that way unfortunately.
I know where you are coming from and your concerns are a worry, I just don't think it's that big a deal here.

He didn't skip training or refuse to train like bale did, he had an offer that he liked accepted so he went to do the medical. The staff at Bayer knew where he was, it was just the players who didn't and why would they know first? It was a quick transfer because there was no hassle for over the fee due to the release clause so it came as a surprise to us so it aimt a shock that it was a surprise also to the players.

Just curious mate-who is it you support in Germany? I'm, assuming you have watched plenty of Leverkusen whoever it is...

Yep, I already amended my post before you quoted it haha. You're right, it's just the general sound of 'poorly advised', and the way the staff have said he's decided he doesn't want to play there anymore. But yeah, moving on.

Schalke, but Leverkusen are much easier to get tickets for as they have a smaller fanbase haha

Son has always looked quick and dangerous when I've seen Bayer play. Bellarabi is another one who always caught the eye, but he's kicked on and on and is now part of the Germany set-up so can't see him leaving anywhere just yet

Full Calhanoglu quote:

"When he wasn't there at nine we texted him to ask if we should bring him his things so that no one would notice that he was too late, but he didn't answer and after that we were told what's going on. Naturally it's a shame. I've tried to reach him, but he hasn't answered. The whole team is pretty disappointed, but it isn't his fault, he's a fine guy. I think he is ill-advised""
