David Villa has been lined up as a £16million replacement for Dimitar Berbatov as Tottenham attempt to start an auction for the disillusioned striker.
Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli, who was battling to save his reputation at White Hart Lane until he lined up the signing of Luka Modric last Friday, has already begun informal talks with Valencia. Intriguingly, when negotiations with Dinamo Zagreb hit a snag, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was brought in to conclude the deal for Modric, who did not interest Chelsea. Manager Juande Ramos is also planning to return to previous club Sevilla to sign winger Diego Capel as Spurs begin a transformation under their highly-rated coach. Although Villa is also on the radar of Chelsea, Liverpool and his preferred choice Real Madrid, Ramos believes he can persuade the Spain striker to join him at White Hart Lane. Berbatov is determined to leave Spurs in the summer and the Bulgaria striker turned in another sub- standard performance against Bolton on Saturday, after which Ramos admitted Berbatov would be leaving in the summer. Ramos told coaching staff he expected the forward to 'play for a move' after the club's Carling Cup triumph over Chelsea, but he has lacked dedication in training and games. Spurs would prefer Berbatov to move abroad, but they will reluctantly sell to one of their Barclays Premier League rivals if they stump up £25m. Villa has an escape clause in his Valencia contract. Comolli will conducts negotiations, although Ramos has a sway with Spanish players after his success at Sevilla. Comolli was instrumental in the dismissal of Martin Jol and the appointment of Ramos, but the pair's relationship is strained after the arrival of Brazilian left back Gilberto from Hertha Berlin for £2m in January. Although Gilberto made his first Premier League start against Bolton, he is seen as 'a Comolli signing' — code among White Hart Lane staff at Spurs for a dud.

A dud :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Oh dear, the Daily Fascists have let their 15 year olds do the sports articles again

Seriously though, I commented on this on the front page.

1. No way in hell is 'Comolli signing' a term used at Spurs Lodge. And Gilberto had a pretty good game v Bolton. Bullshit of the highest order.

2. We won't sell Berba for less than 30m IMO.

3. Villa will cost at least 20m, most likely 25m, no matter who's in for him or who gets him in the end.

4. How do they know Comolli was 'instrumental' in Jol's sacking?

I think that's a load of shit tbh.

Comolli seems to get an awful lot of shit, and never any praise.

He brought us in Hutton, Woodgate, Gunter and Gilberto in the last window and has just landed us Modric.

We've been without a LB and without general experience, Commolli went out and bought a 30 year old, experienced Brazillian international LB and IMO, he should've been given more of a chance than he has. Can't be any worse than Chimbonda at LB.

But the Chairman flying over to Zagreb to finish the deal sounds abit odd to me? Is this the normal procedure does anyone know,or would it only happen if things stalled with Commolli?

16mill for villa is very funny though! Considering bent and modric cost the same. Gotta be more like 25+

First off, glad to see a little bit of common sense about Gilberto on here, i agree he is a much better option than PC at left back.
As for Villa coming to us,would be amazing if happened.Everyone wetting themselves over Modric,if we signed him as well i wouldnt like to think what people would be doing.

Villa for £16 million? That might be the deal of the century...its very hard to imagine him going for less than £20-25 mil, and that's just a guess--the Bats would probably be looking for a lot more...After reading that bit, I pretty much ignored the rest...

Valencia are four points off relegation somehow, if they went down I would happily take:

Maduro
Albiol
Marchena
Albelda
Villa
Baraja
Hildebrand
Banega
Vicente
Joaquin
Silva

and possibly Miguel (as back up for Hutton), Angulo, Morientes, and Zigic.

 what a squad, and we think we've had a shit season. I know it's unlikely that they will go down, they've got a new coach in now, but even if they don't, a few players will probably be looking to leave, and Ramos obviously knows Valencia well. Had they still had Koeman in charge, I would have fancied us to be able to sign Albelda, who hadn't played since he criticised the management at the start of the season.
