to be honest, the only embarrassing comments i see on that page are those. god forbid we have fans showing support for one of our players, who fucking cares if it's swamped with algerians showing their love for bentaleb, it's certainly a whole lot better than stupid negative comments like these.

You'd almost forgive the cringey fawning for a decent player.

There used to be an Egyptian poster on GG called Mido Man Lover, with English being his second language I don't he quite understood the connotations.

I think this is a typical thing in the arabic part of Africa. As people already pointed out it was the same with Mido, and also my local Norwegian team Aalesunds FK when they signed the Moroccan striker Abderazzak Hamed Allah last year. Everything the club posted, whatever it was about, got "spammed" with arabic posts, and even though they sold the player to China last month it's still lots of "Hamed Allah blabla" in the comments.

So this isn't so much about the players playing in a big league, it's more about the support they give for individuals in that part of the world compared to other places. Support is probably not the right word, it's more obsession. Quite fascinating.

He's neither great nor terrible.
Would i miss him if he was dropped? No.
Is he at a level of man love as players such as Sandro or VDV?
No.
Will he ever be?
Who knows.
