If its true that he didnt want Charlie Austin, I wonder why? I would have thougt he would have been a great addition for us, and I thought he went to Saints very cheaply.

Because buying Austin for this team would be like buying helder postiga and then playing long ball football and lumping it into the box....?

Every transfer window I hope we pull a rabbit out of the hat - however despite our obvious reliance on Kane the bigger picture is the most important. Who was available? We will never know, and although Austin looks a snip at 4m he has had some injury concerns, and the issue for me would be it would be pointless having him, if due to the stop / start nature of his appearances could this potentially lead to more injuries due to lack of rhythm.

We spent 20+m on Son - he will continue to improve, and although he is not a direct replacement for Kane can offer alternatives up top - maybe with Chadli.

Should we have a successful year - the summer will be the key to the next 5 years... Imagine Cavani being added to the squad... Maybe Rues... Hopefully both!

Our front four do tend to play fairly fluidly.
In the Leicester replay, Chadki started at LWF and Son at CF, but they swapped around during the game.

Levy must think the sun shines out of Poch's arse at present.
Still worried about back up for Kane but its not going to be easy getting the right fit considering we play 1 up fron t nad whoever comes in will know they are number 2 in the pecking order for the forseeable future.

I don't think it's a lack of faith that the issue - it the risk of Kane being on the end of a shit challenge that is the problem.

Regardless of finishing position this year Poch has built a very special young team and transformed the attitude of the whole club. I wonder how far back you would have to go to find a spurs team with a goal difference in the positive 20's at this stage of a season?

I really hope we can get this across the line any where between 1-3rd.

Kane isn't the only player who can score goals. We have players who can score and cover. Chadli has played as a striker in the past. Son can play as a striker. We aren't going to play with 10 men IF something was to happen to Kane. I believe that if we can do something good this season and reach the Champions League, we can sign a world class striker in the summer. Not just a stop gap that doesn't fit in with out current squad. Just enjoy the ride, it doesn't happen often!

We are playing excellent football, some of he best I have ever seen. Alli went off tonight Chadli came on, guess what, nothing changed. Vertonghen out, Wimmer in, guess what, no change. I get the feeling if Kane got injured Poch would change tactics and everything would be OK. My glass is definitely half full right now.;)
I was a bit concerned about Wimmmer's needless challenges where he gave away cheap free kicks. I hope he cuts that out though because apart from that he looks like an excellent backup.

Was going to post this article as I think it's spot on
Sure, we suddenly seem to be the cat amongst the pigeons in a title fight but remembering our aims and objectives at the start of the season means we ought not yet to make wild assumptions about where we may finish and what / who we should have bought to 'win the league'

I think the key points in the article are the dressing room chemistry and the desire to nurture young players and that Levy appears to be in full support of his manager.

I view Pochettino very differently now than I did when we first signed him. I now see him more like a teacher, someone who clearly takes pleasure in seeing the end product of something he has worked hard to cultivate.

Whilst it would be unbelievable if we won the league (something I never thought I'd see in my youth) - it's the longer term picture I think we as fans should subscribe to. The fact that we are steadily improving and that this is through a combination of buying smart and nurturing talent.

Likeable, talented manager: check
World class training facility: check
Massive stadium: near-check
Youthful team: check
Talented U21s: check
Smart transfer policy: check
Good scouting system: check

What's not to like?

Personally, I'd be happier to see us win trophies through this route than the one taken by Chelsea and Man City.

Instead of wasting energy trying to win the Europa league to get champions league football we should, you know, try and qualify as champions.

Just put the kids and fringe players out in the Europa league games. It'll ruin our season and our best chance of a title in almost 30 years.

Matt,

What if we win both?

My only observation would be that it is pretty clear Poch wanted Berahino. The "one girl in the world for him". But that we wouldn't match the price asked. The latter would be a Board/Chairman call. To my mind, that is disappointing. Precisely because we should trust Poch, so should the Board. If he wanted him, they should have backed him. He hasn't spent a penny yet in net terms, so a few million over the top for a player, if Poch wants him, in a season where it is all to play for and we obviously have key man risk, to my mind was the least he deserved.

And if we didn't have the money?

We are spending £750m on the new stadium. We are stretched to the limit and will be for a while.

We score with many different players from many different positions. Personally an Austin would have been a good back up, No thanks Saihdo Berahino. Great team spirit didn't need to be thrown off balance.
I think Austin might be detrimental to team spirit. Southampton got him for a song because his contract was close to expiring. But if what I read is correct, Southampton is paying him around £100,000 per week. That would not sit well with our players, as Kane is paid around £40,000 and Alli only £25,000 per week. Maybe, Poch would not sign him for this reason.

Southampton, according to reports, is paying him £100,000 a week. We are paying Kane around £40,000 and Alli £25,000. This discrepancy may cause discord with the team. This is only my opinion, however.

He will. Vert and Dyer had also made some reckless tackles in our half. No doubt, Poch and his coaches will have Wimmer correct his errors.
