I think people should watch videos of England when we had Linekar and Beardsley upfront and then some of Sheringham and Shearer.

Neither partnership was blessed with pace but much better than the other faster England partnerships of the last two decades.

Lineker was rapid over the first few yards and Shearer was no slouch, maybe you only remember him post injury which forced him to reinvent his game.

Both shearer and lineker ha enough place to be played in behind a defence

Bullshit. Both of them were smart enough players to time their runs properly and also had the positional sense to know the danger areas. Neither were quick.

Not slouches but it was clever movement more than pace that got them their goals.

A good footballing brain is worth much more than pace.

Their games were certainly not based on their pace, I was just illustrating that both Lineker and Shearer had more than enough pace when required and it was a tool at both's disposal although as you say they both had many more strings to their bow.

Of course they did but they still had enough pace to get awayfron
Players and offer a threat in behind.people seem to Think when saying a pacy striker that's all they need to have of course it's not but we need one who had it has an asset

Spot on but to say they are slow is just wrong.

I would be absolutely gutted if Liverpool got Carroll. I think the inclusion of him to their squad would put them on par with us. Ok our midfield pisses all over theirs but their strikeforce would be the difference.

Right now they have Torres and Suarez, is Carroll replacing Torres really an upgrade? personally I see it as a backwards step but one they need to make if Torres wants to leave.

What would be interesting is to see how Carroll and Suarez did as a partnership because if you believe the ITK that could well have been our own strike force.

Is Carroll better than Torres...patently not.

Would Carroll and Suarez playing together be more effective than Suarez/Torres, Suarez/Kuyt or Torres/Kuyt = yes, IMHO.

I think we need a new striker no matter what - [facetious] even if he is worse than what we have now - that's how much we need one.[//facetious]

unfortunately that may mean paying ridiculous money for the likes of Carroll

big big risk, Defoe would be immense in the championship, probably would end on 35 goals, pav would look awesome too, and both have spells in the prem were they look class, doesnt mean they are worth 35 million!

pure magical madness

Would you swap Defoe for Carroll?

This is very amusing, simply why isn't this thread locked, how can all the power mad brokers miss such a large transfer thread?
