Spurs land Modric

Tottenham have won the race to sign highly-rated Croatia midfielder Luka Modric for a fee believed to be £15.8million (euros 20 million).

The Barclays Premier League club have agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old, who was reportedly courted by many of Europe's top sides, and he will leave Dinamo Zagreb for White Hart Lane this summer subject to him passing a medical.
Modric must also obtain a work permit but that will be a formality given his status as one of the continent's most coveted talents.

I agree with Joey, I thin 4-3-2-1 is the way forward for us and he's an excellent start. Especially if Berbatov leaves.

I think we will see a few more signings before Euro 2008 simply because signing a potential star of the Euros like Modric now means we can avoid the possibly of a sky-rocketing fee if he stars in the competition. So I expect that we will be doing most of our major businesses before pre-season even begins unlike previous seasons.

One reason why we may have stolen a march on the bigger clubs could be that they are less willing to risk 20 million on a player who have not played on the big stage yet. I imagine if he had a great Euros then we wouldn't have had a chance as Barca, Arse, and Chelski would have been seriously contending for him.

Whatever the reasons though, I think he will be a superb signing. I hope him, and a few more stars like Amelia, Arshavin, and 1 more solid defender will convince Berbs to stay as we will have serious ammunition for him and Keane to do maximum damage next season.

On the other hand, I expect quite a few departures, now more than ever, simply because with an initial investment 20 million (probably in installments), we will likely exceed 30-40 million to get all our target players and that means numerous departures for certain.

Not quite dead, but I had an accident after the Sunderland game and the wound got infected, so I was partially paralysed for a while, then it went away, then it came back and then went again. But, during this time I didn't have access to the internet which helped me beat my SC addiction (I was spending far too much time here). Also I've now moved to the US and live in Seattle so by the time I've finished work it's pretty late in the UK and not worth posting anyway.

It was your sudden inactivity that led me to believe you had died because of the infection. Good to know officially that you're alive and well!

a mod told me that you were hoping to return in the summer though

Definitely the kind of player we need, albeit judging from only a handful of games for both club and country. Style, flair and class in abundance!!

Now on to a defensive midfielder, centre back and keeper!

Great documentary interview and perhaps we should try to buy eduardo de silva from the scum. He is out of action so maybe we can get for a good price although I suppose they would never let him come to us unless we swapped him with someone they might want. If you see the you tube video above you will understand why we might him to be in the team with Modric.

Maybe I am in a DREAM? I have just come in from a night 'on the town' and I spent HALF the evening lamenting how The Toon had beaten us to HIS signature (silly MOI, as it now appears!). I just hope that I am NOT in a dream....am I? Christ NO....awww well, it is as good a dream as it gets...and it can only get better....ROLL ON Euro 08 and the joy of seeing Modic making a few Premier Bosses wish that they were in our place.....COYS!

Great news!!! And to think, my Toon supporting mate was convinced they were going to sign him. We were just talking about it yesterday, he was asking me did I think Modric is a good player. I said that it was be a massive signing if they got him, little knowing we were a few hours away from getting him.

Happy days......

Now, if we could just convince Berbatov to stay. This and one or two other big signings will help.

This thread will be massive when everyone sees the news in the morning

I agree; Arshavin could cost an arm and a fucking testicle after the Euros if his form is anywhere near where it has been in just the UEFA Cup and G-d only knows how much Modric would have been if he kept on as before--Levy, DCom, and Juande got the timing spot on.

Don't think we will have to worry about Amelia though, as he probably won't start for Italy--Gigi is still #1 I believe...

Will we buy many more players? I can see two more buys--CB, GK. Maybe two or three departures--possibly more on loan deals when next season gets closer. Not much more. I do not think that Modric's arrival means the end for JJ, Hudds seems to be the one moving down the pecking order in this instance. We'll have to wait and see...But for now, lets all be enjoy the excitement of a world class player coming to the Lane!  :hump:

Did the so called ITK's not see this coming?

You beat me to it. One would think that signing a coveted player for a record fee would have made its way down to the ITK's...

Crikey we've signed Modric! They'll be others I'm sure.

next stop sign Panthro from Getafe! Kameni from Espanyol, and id keep jenas as a defensive midfielder, yes he has his attacking moments, but hes shit at finishing and he tackles back reasonably well, plus he much vaunted at doing things on the pitch that people dont see.
