We are showing the rest of the league that you don't have to spend Man Shitty silly money to challenge. Just have a well run club. Yes it is not perfect and one or two signings in the January for key positions in case of injury and we are sorted.

Anyone neutral that follows football with half a brain would see that Spurs is a credit to the game.

COYS!!

You make me proud.

Why do you slag them off so much then?

As with everything, nothing is ever perfect and I am entitled to my opinions just as you are.

When things are wrong or I disagree with things then I say so.

If we play badly, I say so. If we play well, I say so. If we give the ball away to often, I say so.

Still, the fact remains, we are team without a sugar daddy spending 100's of millions on buying players and paying silly arse wages (compared to some of the others) and having a real good go at it.

to be fair to the likes of everton, villa etc. that starting 11 out there didnt cost as much as city's bunch, but they still werent exactly cheap

we've got a strict wage structure but DL certainly hasnt been shy flashing the cash on transfers

I think investing in good quality young players has paid a large share in our success. Scouting out and signing young players before they hit the big time is harder to achieve now though, with the likes of leandro, hazard, neymar, etc all bound to fetch pricetags of 30m plus. Compare this to bale at 5m, bae at 3.5m, lennon 1m, kaboul 8m, walker 4m and modric at a pricier 16m. I think we were extremely lucky to sign vdv and parker so cheap, in different circumstances players of their calibre should have been sold for at least 15m.

Yes but a massive point in this argument is that we spend our OWN money, not that which is provided by some sugar daddy.

i think its 10 million now. it was 5 raising to 10 based on targets etc. i'd be amazed if he hasnt smashed all of them and we've had to pay the full amount. worth every coin though

Our starting XI:
Friedel Free
Walker 3m
Kaboul 8m
King Youth
BAE 3.5m
Lennon 1m
Parker 5m
Modric 16m
Bale 8m
Rafa 8m
Adebayor Loan

By today's standards that is a very cheap starting lineup. It would surely compare very favourably against those of our Top 6 rivals, even Arsenal.

I think Southampton's debt meant that at a later date we agreed to forgo these payments and just pay them a lower sum up front.

Read that on Wikipedia earlier today. Said it was 5m raising to 10m initially, but we paid 2m in 2008 as Southampton were desperate for cash, so in the end we paid 7m. An absolute steal.

It was on 5live t'other week - our regular starting XI (Friedel, BAE, King, Kaboul, Walker, Bale, Parker, Modric, Lennon, Vdv, Adebayor) cost an estimated £48m. With Defoe in today it rose to £51m. Sandro replacing Parker might up it by a mil, Sandro replacing Modric would drop it by about £10m. Pretty impressive value for money when you think about it...

Difference is that we're living within our means. There's nothing wrong with spending money as long as it isn't putting the club in danger.

Everton chose to hold onto their players and weren't pro-active in the transfer market. While we were buying Lennon, Carrick, Huddlestone, Berbatov and then making huge profits or getting a long-term player for cheap Everton were building a stable team. Without generating money their progress stunted.

Under MON Villa had one of the highest salary to turnovers in the league and it is their own fault they didn't have money for transfers.

DL has spent sensibly and intelligently. Our net spending is low and our wage bill is very manageable. There's nothing wrong with that.

Yes but a massive point in this argument is that we spend our OWN money, not that which is provided by some sugar daddy.

That's not entirely true, Lewis pumps money into the club via share issues, we also have a number of loans. However Lewis runs the club as an investment and not as a toy, so he is expecting to see a return on his investment at some point.

The club is financially well run, but to say that we haven't used any money but our own is a little disingenuous.
