Looks more like we're stagnating rather than improving compared to our rivals.

Sorry, but I think you are totally wrong with this.

Last season I'd have agreed with you and was feeling pretty 'meh' about Spurs. But there's some big improvements this year...namely we have a team again playing a system they understand and under the wing of a manager who knows what he's doing. As opposed to a bunch of overvalued individuals thrown together because they showed a bit of skill elsewhere. In particular we now have a core of youngish players who have come through our systems, who play for each other and the club. This means we have a heart again. That is massive progress compared to this time last year.

Compare that to say Pool...I can't think of a single player in their starting line-up who came through their own system. Yes, loads of great names on paper, but will they pull together when the brown stuff gets thick?

Sure, we could transfer in a load of overpriced players, but we did that and it didn't get us very far. The main mission of this transfer window is trying to get shot of most of those. Then add one or two who will compliment and improve the squad.

The one significant transfer we have made is the most astute signing of the transfer window so far: Alderweireld. He's got everything our defence lacked last year and he previously had a rock solid partnership with Verts.

And on top of that we've got a fantastic stadium planned which will be the foundation to establishing us as a top four club for the next 30 years.

Sure, there are one or two areas where we could do with something extra...up front being the most obvious, but things are definitely looking up.

Since he arrived at Spurs Lodge on May 27th, the manager has seen the departure of 18 players including Michael Dawson, Kyle Naughton, Benji Stambouli, Paulinho, Sandro, Younes Kaboul and Lewis Holtby. Notably, none of the departures could be seen as key first team players and three were bought in the flush of the Gareth Bale transfer money. Stambouli had only been at the club 10 months.

How the fuck can you come to that conclusion?

Agreed totally with you!!!

Do not underestimate the youth. Mason, Bentaleb and Kane provided the spark that is required to get the youth players in believing in themselves ... this is a great deal.
Sure ... we still another player upfront but overall, we are pretty balance in every position. Players will get to involve with the team more. Liverpool team is too unbalance, let's see how they perform when mid season arrived.

Key point from MBH .

I'm enjoying the preseason positivity as much as the next person....but in the event of a few early Prem defeats it will all disappear like a puff of smoke.

Who are you considering as our rivals mate?
Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Southampton. 2 above, 2 below.

United have now got 2 players we wanted. Arsenal picked right up last season and signing a quality keeper only adds to that.
Liverpool have bought loads again and it could go either way as to whether it works or not and Southampton have way of coming up with new talent.

I think we got 5th last year because Liverpool were shocking and Southampton ran out of steam. We were boring and rubbish and clueless in many many games last season. If we hadn't have turned it on against Arsenal and Chelsea at home you'd have all been really disappointed. We can't break teams down unless they come at us and even then we got beat by stoke comfortably.
Kane was a revelation but no one knows if it's the start of something good or a flash in the pan. Eriksen can be brilliant or anonymous but is in droppable because we've got no one else.

Yes our defence was terrible. Alderweireld, whilst not really marquee should help. Not sure where Wimmer fits in? Tripper - let's wait and see.

We've still got Adebeyor. We've still got soldado. How are they still here? Get rid asap and get some more goals in the squad.

And I'm still utterly unconvinced about MoPo. The guy does nothing for me. Doesn't change a game when it's going south, is boring in interviews, just another levy puppet probably until Christmas when it's all gone Pete tong and he's out citing a lack of his own signings as where it all went wrong.

there's only one explanation, however site rules mean I'll be banned if I spell it out.
He's certainly a glass half full kinda guy...half full off piss, shit, bile, puss and bin juice.

That's a review of last season mainly, it doesn't really paint a stagnant picture of Spurs currently, as things have changed, and still are changing,

I have to agree with pretty much everything here to be fair. I just hope that it all clicks into place this season and we start playing more consistently.

The point about not being able to break teams down unless they come at us (generally) is spot on. In fact its been that way for a long time, which is why we've clocked up so many 0-1 defeats to sub-standard sides in recent years. I should know, cause I was there for most of them!!!

I guess the point about Poch is slightly pessimistic, although I'm not entirely sold on him yet either.

We've still got a lot to look forward to moving forwards though!

I don't think enough's changed to suggest that this season will be much better than last. We might not ship as many goals, but unless we sign a quality striker or a Van Der Vaart type player, we're still going to struggle to score goals. Can't rely on Kane all of the time, it puts too much pressure on the kid.

I think the players we've signed have been pretty underwhelming.
I have very little hope of any kind of top class attacking players joining us so really, our hopes will rest on Kane maintaining, Chadli and Eriksen getting even better and Lamela looking like a 30m player rather than a squad filler.

Even then, playing 4231 week after week after week, i can't see the football being ""watchable"

Arsenal will almost certainly bring in another marquee signing this window and are unlikely to sell like they did in previous windows. United are on their way back and seemingly unrestricted financially, Lolerpool are signing players we wanted.

The stadium really is about the only thing of interest and that's at least 3 years away. Lets hope we're not a mid table club by the time it opens.

I reckon we missed our golden opportunity to be a main stay Champs League club when we failed to invest in the Redknapp side properly. Hopefully the new stadium will help give us another chance. We can only hope, because we are falling behind again.

I'd say we have hope to be a much better team than last season. We have a squad of youngsters who are a year older and have a year's more experience behind them. I can see Kane, Lamela and Eriksen having potential for an outstanding season. We have had a year to get accustomed to Poch's ways. We have totally revamped our defence from the championship standards of last season. A couple more additions to the squad in midfield and attack should improve us further. Doom!
