Only want to see Wimmer play with CCV because it would benefit both players and give him more game time.

Would prefer Poch to have rotated our CB's a little more in the first half of the season to give Wimmer a couple more games - obvious chances bein EL. ATM both Toby & Jan have played all but abut 2 games each, which is too much and could give us a problem in the 2nd half of the season (although the CB position doesn't het involved in the really tiring pressing etc)

It's the first season in a long while we have had a settled CB pairing and a good DM and we have a very solid defence I know Toby and Jan are good players but I think we have chopped and changed to much in the past.

True, but Jan and Toby have played together lots in the past both at Ajax and with Belgium (admittedly often as FB's) so don't need time playing together to get to know each others game. Just a case of making sure that they do not get over tired by over playing - and as importantly Wimmer gets game time so that if he needs to play (if god forbid Toby or Jan are injured and out for a few weeks) he's match fit. ATM I suspect Wimmer is not as match fit as we'd like him to be as he's not played much with us

I concur, there is nothing wrong with having a settled back 4 at all. I can almost guarantee that we wont see a game where neither Jan or Toby will play. Rotation is all good but if it isn't necessary then why change a winning (or drawing) formula. I'd like to see Wimmer get more games, but at the expense of unnecessarily breaking up the best partnership we've had in 10 years? Nah. I'll put my faith in Poch and our highly educated medical team to decide who needs resting and when.

This is why we have medical and fitness teams. You don't rotate just incase one of the players you're rotating gets injured, that would be just plain silly. Wimmer will have to wait for his chance. He must've knew that was the case. I'd also be extremely surprised if he isn't match fit at any point in the season, I'd imagine that is the minimum that Poch expects from all of our playing squad.

SAF rotated throughput every season, starting in September. And I don't recall too many others thinking his methods were silly

That's fine, there is nothing wrong with rotation when you have options who are just as capable. Unfortunately for us Wimmer is a prospect but is nowhere near the level of Toby and Jan, Kane has no back up, nobody can replicate what Dier brings to the team and Vorm has shown himself to be unfit to lace Lloris' boots. So what do we do? Play a weakened team even though our fitness team has given players to go ahead? Yet again, we have a team of professionals who put our players through rigorous testing week in week out, if they judge that a player is fit then he's fit. First rule of management, implement changes based on sound measurements, not just for the sake of it.

Correct, but there are 2 reasons to rotate as SAF noted :

1. To ensure players do not exhibit signs of tiredness (physical or mental) in the latter parts of the season
2. To keep all the players you think you are going to need match fit by giving them games through rotation

Rotation is about minimising risks - you may get away sometimes with little/no rotation, but its likely you won't if you are playing 50 games a season (ie weekend - mid week - weekend).

Poch has very few choices with Kane, yet he did rest him/rotate him against Monaco.

He does have a viable alternative in Wimmer (not as good I'd agree as Toby and Jan) but by not rotating either he is taking a big risk.

And by the way SAF did not rotate in players who were as good as his first team - almost nobody has a 2nd team as good s their first team

Last season I think we had a discussion about not trusting our CB partners with a young player, funny how signing Toby has changed that Verts and Toby (and as a team) we look like it's possible to play CCV, ball or Milo's with either one.

What's going on with our youth this year seem to be getting a lot of heavy defeats? Is there a reason behind it?

Seems like a lot of youth starting for them tonight. While it shows you that Klopp doesnt have the competition as a high priority, it also shows faith in the youngsters. I understand it's only Exeter City they are playing, but it is nice to see that, tbh. I hope Poch plays some youngsters like Winks, Onomah, CCV, etc and rotates the squad on Sunday, but I highly doubt it.
As Liverpool had 7 players out with hamstring injuries not a surprise Klopp played youngsters - dont think you can compare the situations particularly when considering opposition they faced to who we are. Have been unfortunate in both cup draws, weaker oppo allows more freedom of choice.
We already have the youngest aveage age in division and thats because we have brought the youngsters thru when ready.
Wimmer needs game time before CCV. Carroll needs to play more to prove his worth and neither of these are oldies. I do hope Josh is given a chance but in amongst these youngsters you still need some experience or they dont actually learn anything.
Then the comment about how seriously teams are taking the competition - even with all their problems Man U put out decent side. Didnt see Man City or Everton fielding depleted teams either

A couple of my mates are Liverpool fans, and I hadn't realised how bad things were with them injury wise.
However, there have been multiple close comparisons between Pochettino's high tempo press, and Klopp's high tempo press, which makes me wonder if Pochettino having a full preseason to prepare his squad for the demands of the high press, as opposed to Klopp having to do it on the fly mid season, explains why we have suffered less injures than them?

Davies said in his ssn interview that we do alot of strength training, which is benefiting us in the fact we havnt been picking up many muscular injuries. Liverpool might benefit from klopps new methods next season

Rodriguez and Schneiderlin both gave a lot of praise to Pochettino and his fitness training as they both credited it for their lack of injuries. Of course Rodriguez has not been so lucky since then though...

I also believe Rodriguez said that the training also helped him with other physical feats like his jumping ability.

Dortmund had horrendous injury issues in last 3 season's under Klopp yet this season they haven’t. Also, I could be wrong, but I don't recall Southampton having any major issues when Poch first took over, which was in January.

I can take it to some extent but they have lost 5 CBs who don't actually carry out the high press .

just seen the goals from yesterday, first goal we concede is the worst you'll ever see. mcdermott has the ball looking for options, bowls it out to paul who's dropped short, he plays it straight back but under-hits it, chelsea striker nips in and mcdermott takes him down, penalty, 1-0. maghoma not too hot for the 3rd either giving it straight to them. seems a lot of the goals we let in are down to overplaying, if they're being taught that way then you have to expect mistakes I guess and just hope they cut it out of their game as they develop.

on the otherhand good play by edwards for the goals, he seems to be quite well built now and no longer looks out of place physically.
