Actually surprised Barkley is not in the squad aswell. I'm sure if Pearce was at that game yesterday he would have found a spot for him and Tom C.

I've never seen anything from McEachran that impressed me. Utterly average player. Shelvey is awful. Barkley and Carroll would be much better choices.

Understand ManU beat Liverpool 3-1.

So its ManU u 21's v Spurs u 21's (probably) on Monday at OT.

Venue and date to be confirmed

I think I saw on MUTV it was 3-0 but it seems we will be playing Man Utd, which imo will easier than playing Liverpool as they were going to put a very strong side for the final apparently

Real lack of strikers coming through if that's all the U21's can muster.

Agreed. Others who could have been called up include Harry Kane (still 19) and William Keane (ManU) (still 20). Think most of the others previously called up are too old (eg Welback) and the alternatives would be from the E u 19's who I am equally unenthusiatic about.

Think Obika is just too old - otherwise on current form he would be a good option for E u 21's.

Slightly off subject but this is probably why we are apparantly closing in on Croatian striker Ante Rebec (almost 20) from RNK Split. Spurs have a similar not overly impressive roster of strikers at this age group - hopefully both to be rescued by Shaq Coulthirst still 18.

Keane strangely played today despite playing for Leicester on Saturday, I would of thought they would let him get back first tbh

Thought we needed a competition to keep us occupied before the u 21 final against Manchester United, so I found ................. the Copa Amsterdam for the u18's, including a match against Manchester United.

http://www.copa-amsterdam.nl/tottenham-hotspur-returns-copa-amsterdam/

Saturday 14.00 (UK 13.00) Spurs u 18's v Cruzerio (Brazil) u 18's
Sunday 11.00 (UK 10.00) Fluminense (Brazil) u18's v Spurs u 18's
Sunday 16.00 (UK 15.00) Man United u18's v Spurs u 18's

On Monday there are then various playoffs against some of the other competitors - Ajax, Chelsea Ghana, Ajax Cape Town and Borussia Munchengladbach

Could be interesting who Spurs play in this competition versus those in the u21 match - Spurs best u18's Nabil Bentelab, Kenneth McEvoy and Shaq Coulthirst are now regulars in the u21's, and no doubt ManU will have similar issues.

There are two Keane's at Utd, one is a Striker the other a Centre back. That might explain that!

So Carroll doesn't make the England U21 squad but McEachran does. LOL.

Stuart Pierce is an idiot. Why can't England ever get competent managers.

Great post SI. Was really interesting to read from John McDermott again. Dont know if it's worth posting all of that on its own. Other thing of note from that is im now following the twitter so that we can watch the live streams when they're posted.

Here's an Everton fan's view of the other night's match. From their fans to their twitter they all seem to be quite fair in their assessment.

I went to the game last night and really enjoyed it overall. After a difficult first half against a very good Spurs side, Everton really came back in to it in the second and a draw after 90 minutes would have been a fair scoreline all things being equal. Effort was absolutely there from all, and hopefully the majority of this young side will still be around next year to build on this performance and their respective careers.

Some individual performances to note -

For me Browning was the standout defender and real surprise package for me - put in a few really good blocks and saved us once or twice throughout the game from conceeding. Duffy (like others) did grow in to the game a lot more as it went on, and I would like to see him and Barkley get a go against Chelsea.

In midfield - Lundstram looks to have a lot of potential; not everything he did came off, though he is a big guy, presses the opposition really well and has a good work ethic on him. More first team football in the Championship / League 1 next year will be really good for him.

Barkley had a frustrating first half, though was arguably the standout player in the second half and started to impose himself a lot. Some of his decision making is questionable, though I am sure he will develop that in the next couple of years. Promising!

Kennedy went off early and was replaced by Duffus who had a decent outing up front. McAleny was moved out wide and then came in to the game a lot. He took his goal really well and was a threat throughout. On the basis of tonight's performance and what I have read about him this season, I think he is unfortunate not to have been included in more matchday 18s. He is definitely a nuisance to the opposition, has good pace and looks to have bulked up a bit. Long had some nice moments also, including a very good goal - now out of the Academy I think the real work will start for him now, in terms of trying to nail down a reserve team place and look to progress further.

Unfortunately Stones did not have the best of nights and was at fault for both goals. As with the above players I have praised though, you can't judge anyone wholly on one nights performance, so let's wait and see with him and hope he comes back stronger next year with a full Premier league pre-season under his belt.

Quite a few of the Spurs players impressed - notably Tom Carroll who I think came off the bench against us in the Premier League. The striker Obita caused us a lot of trouble also, including two goals, so it was a good test for Duffy / Browning.

If anyone gets the chance - I would definitely recommend getting down to a reserve game. Was a strong Spurs support there in the West stand, with one really vocal section of 100 or so who have apparantly started going to a lot of the reserve games. Kenwright was in the stands also watching the game!
