I think that Mceachren has been playing recently but Shelvey is out of favour in liverpool's first team lately and not been in their youth team either. Apparently Liverpool fans say Rodgers dont trust him any more since he made a terrible performance in the first team and thats why he has been only used as a sub, though he started against Fulham.
Still had more game time than Carroll, rightly or wrongly and he's a lump so Pearce will like him.

Over the course of the season yes but Carroll has had more game time in the first team and U21 than him in the last 2 or 3 months

Since February Shelvey has only played 93 mins of footy in the first team and none in the last 2 months in the U21(might be longer but i havent seen him play for them in the last 2 months) whereas Carroll has played 38mins which would have been more than Shelvey had Rodgers changed his line up against Fulham last weekend after they couldnt catch Everton. Also worth noting including U21 matches Carroll has played over double the footy than Shelvey has in the last 3 months.

Shelvey shouldnt be in the squad but I think Barkley should or perhaps Carroll and one place to someone who has done well solely in the U21's to promote the U21 league as a incentive to the younger ones.

I agree with you but don't think Carroll's had the game time to justify it McEachran's the most deserving by that criterea, plus Pearce is an idiot, terrible decision by the Fa not only to hire him but keep him on as long as they have. No wonder English football's reguarly found wanting

The reason why I hold the game time criteria high is because for so long the U21's use to be full of shite that had made the odd appearance for the top 4 and never played again but constantly made the U21 squads, which was a joke. I mean there have been plenty of good players in the lower division who have done very well but never got a chance despite them being better than the players of the top 4 or so. Pearce apparently didnt know who carroll was until mid way last season during a visit to the training ground which is insane, as he was brilliant for the O's as a 17 year old. He also picked Wickham for years despite not being ready and not playing much at all which begged belief, despite at the time Kane killing it at the for Millwall.

As his performance as a coach it amazes me how long he has been kept on and it seems his teams are built for results and not development. That said the press and the FA want results and not do the hard work that Germany, Spain and even Netherlands have done. It seems that Neville has been tipped for taking over but he team selection baffled me at the time, as unlike now, then McEachran iirc wasn't playing for Chelsea or anyone but was still picked for the U21's over Carroll who was doing very well at the time.

I was wondering who that was! I was watching him all through half time and he was pinging balls 50 yards on the volley as accurately as most can do a ten yard pass. I was very impressed from that short showing!

Agree, most of our first team would struggle to pull of those cross field passes that he was doing. Obviously under no pressure but you could see the technique was there

3) Alex McQueen
4) Connor Ogilvie
5) Kane Vincent-Young
6) Dominic Ball
7) Aaron McEneff
8) Cameron Carter-Vickers
9) Laste Dombaxe
10) Jack Munns
11) Filip Lesniak
12) Roman Michael-Percil

I think Pearce only new who Carroll was after sheer woods rant about how Caroll was over looked and England played 3 centre half s in midfield a few years away.

Agre with the strong midfield and defence comment, can see lots of goal scoring opportunities being created but not sure who will score goals - neither Akindayini (striker) or Sonupe (wide forward) have had that much game time or scored goals in the u18's. Big opportunity for them to stake a claim to be the main u 18 forwards next season.

Surprised at the absence of Oduwa after the release of Zapata- Caicedo (still to be confirmed but I think he has gone despite starting to score goals), but maybe it is to get the others like Akidayinin to step up

btw where did you find the squad ?

Completely forgot about Zapata-Caicedo. I dont understand, if we have a lack of fire power and he's been banging them in recently, why we would release him. Surely he's earned a years contract didnt he get a couple of hatricks recently. Also didnt Jack Munns look to be gone he must have earned himself another chance.

And I got the squads from here http://www.copa-amsterdam.nl/spelerslijsten/#

Cheers for the squad - I missed it when I looked earlier.

Zapata-Caicedo - understand reason was the amount of injuries and form in the first 18 months or so of the academy, but last few months he's been scoring well, so its bizarre if he has definitely gone as we are not over endowed with young strikers.

Munns - went on a trial to Birmingham I think, could have been to see if they wanted him on loan, was never made clear what the purpose of the trial was.

Match Summary (google translated from Dutch).

UPDATE 15:15 HOURS: Tottenham Hotspur and Cruzeiro have their first match in Group B with 0-0 played right. Both teams were able to create some chances but Tottenham came closest with a shot off the crossbar. In the final stage of the match was Tottenham Hotspur with ten men after a red card for Alex McQueen. The defender had to leave the field after the downing of a broken player. In the remaining minutes Cruzeiro still got a great chance, but to no avail.

Lost the 2nd match to a last minute goal 1-0 to Fluminense (Brazil)

As we discusssed yeastrerday, we are short of recognised goal scorers.

Worth pointing out that our defense and midfield are reasionably stroing - yesterday's opponents Cruzerio who we drew 0-0 with have just won theior second match 4-0 totally dominating itm, unlike when they played Spurs.

Aegon Copa Amsterdam @Copa_Amsterdam
Tottenham Hotspur wins their third match by defeating #MenUnited with one goal, 0-1 #mentot #copa13

As comments before, not enough goalscorers in squad but defence/midfield are ok !

Think Spurs play Ajax tiomorrow.

Edit : Goal scored by Darren McQueen, we played last 10 minutes with 10 men after a red card.
