I toddled off to this game last night, anything to escape Jim White and his iPad on SSN, and a string of reporters who must have been back of the queue when charisma was handed out, surrounded by pubescent teens outside a club training ground.

First thing first, we were missing quite a lot of our regulars, but forgetting the result it was another positive example of what we're trying to grow at Spurs. Basically Norwich had 2 counter attacks and scored, they were lovely precise goals - but I'd be pissed if my U21 youth side rocked up playing a very negative 4-4-2, sit deep and look to grab something on the break.

As usual we dominated the ball, not that Norwich had any pretence of battling us for possession anyway, and whilst the unfamiliar make up of the side (inc the curious case of 25yo Simon Dawkins?!?) meant at times it was a little disjointed with some sloppy passes going astray, we moved the ball quickly, combined nicely and a tried to play through them, with a little more luck and precision it would have seen our often excellent approach play reap some rewards. Often our first team don't see that final pass, our kids do seem to see the passes, last night we just didn't quite find them correctly.

Really like the look of Veljkovic, played at the base of the 4-3-3 (later moving to CB) and he set the tempo excellently. Always available, plays on the half turn, the Busquets type 'half touch' type player. I know he's very highly rated and I can see why, slight concern about a lack of pace, but the boy has talent. Bentaleb looks a good prospect too, lovely first touch - reminds me of the players Arsenal had a habit of finding - good technique, dynamic and powerful and can spot a pass too.

We are a very well coached side, not many of our players really stood out last night but again it is clear they are being coached into a collective group philosophy. Pass, move, combine... then press like fuckers high up the pitch. I've said this a lot, but good times ahead for us - in many ways seeing your youth sides play the kind of football we do gives me more satisfaction than Levy and Baldini's shopping trip this summer.

How did we line up tactically ? Who played where ? Interested in where/how Holtby was played.

4-3-3

Miles
McQueen Ball Stewart Ward
Veljkovic
Dombaxe Bentaleb
Holtby Coulthirst Dawkins
Front 3 interchanged quite a lot, Holtby drifted infield into no10 type areas, full backs pushed up high and Dombaxe and Bentaleb both broke forward well from CM with Veljkovic at the base, setting the tempo and playing with tactical discipline to protect the defence, and when we had the ball he'd drop between the splitting CBs to create a 3-4-3.
If there was one concern about the youth games I've seen, it's the defending once we have lost the ball and are out of balance - we do get caught in that phase a hell of a lot, out of shape and liable to a fast break. We press the ball well, but it's the retreat into shape that can be a bit slow and leave ourselves vulnerable.

Fredericks and Mcevoy must be injured.

Also I wonder what on earth has happened to Coulibaly, surely it's better to give him game time instead of Dawkins? No idea what we're doing with him, also is Obika still on our books?

Didn't we loan out Coulibaly again?

Was always going to be a gamble by signing him just on his u17 world cup appearances, not against those type of moves though. You win some you lose some.

Gone to Portuguese newly promoted team

Where have you seen this ? Is there a chance of confusion with Khalidou Coulibaly who plays in Portugal

Coulibaly was given extended leave as Beats has said - have not heard anything since.

Ceballos seems to hgave disappeared - there were rumours he was in Bulgaria, but the only trace I could find was a DJ in a prominent nightclub called Ceballos !

McEvoy may be injured - or possibly called up for the RoI u21 match against Germany on September 9th.

But the u21 team v Norwich did seem to be missing a lot of experienced players (and both Jonathan Obika and Cameron Lancaster have not gone out on loan that I can think of), so I wouldn't read too much into the result if this was an experienced Norwich team

No I mean Ceballos

http://www.fcarouca.eu/noticia-ceballos-apresentado-em-arouca-62.htmlCristian Ceballos, Spanish striker 20 years, was presented for minutes at the Estadio Municipal de Arouca and starts, tomorrow, to train the orders of Pedro Emanuel.
Ceballos reaches Arouca, from Tottenham on loan valid for one season, and will compete for the position with Roberto and striker Romario, thus completing the full three advanced that the coach wanted.
With this contract are now two Spanish players on the roster Arouquense after hiring also this summer's Ivan Balliu side. Both players have played together in Barcelona, where he began his training. Ceballos then went to the club André Villas-Boas, in summer 2011, which is considered a great hope.
During the presentation, the owner of sweater 11 FC Arouca said he was "very happy to get to Arouca," club on which claims to have spoken with Ivan Balliu who gave him "good references club and associative mass."Ceballos for this is also an opportunity to show their worth "and then be able to return to England in a position to fight for a place in the first team at Tottenham."
With this signing, and the market closes, Pedro Emanuel now has at its disposal a total of 25 players for the first season in Division summit of Portuguese football.

Cheers SS. I guess that is an inherent aspect of this philosophy to a degree, the high press, high line will always be vulnerable to this, but it requires teams to be good enough to exploit it. I guess at u21 & u18 level you are also going to have a lot of flux and personnel changes, making this disciplined transitional aspect one of the hardest to master consistently.
