yup think you are right on pele on reflection

re game time - 25 minutes each half ie 50 minutes a game.

However each 18 man squad has to play 2 games a day - and then repeat that tomorrow and another game on Monday ie 5 games of 50 minutes in 3 days.

So on average each player will play a tad less than 2 full 90 minute game spread over 3 days (with substitutions). Not sure that players would be expected to play that much more.

O ye forgot they had 2 games per day. Fair play then.

Shows how strong this tournie is that our 15s and 19s are really being tested. Can only improve em. They have been cruising the season in England, will really test their mettle

agreed. that's whats great about these tournaments, playing against these continental teams can only improve them. it gives them a different perspective from the often 'blood and guts' of english football

The competition next month in Terborg may even be a bigger test that this one. Someone came here today who lives near Terborg and has been at the tournament in previous years - he says the Brazilian teams are usually a level above anything he sees in Europe at this age. Will be a great test.

And by the way, this bloke looks a serious player. Not sure if it's "remember the name" territory, but he really impressed in both games today.

Who was it the other day who was saying that German clubs were still producing much better players than Spurs?

Well, I guess that this tournament will be the litmus test.

Hope I'm not made to look a fool for having argued the case for our young players!
Im not sure it is, German youth teams are transfixed on winning tournament but to have all teams competitive whilst pushing the talented players to the highest level and achieving game time

Looked into the Wolfsburg team a little more, and from top to bottom on the teamsheet here (http://manager.u19-cup.de/games/download/38), these are their ages:

18
19
18
19
18
19
19
19
19
19
18

7 x 19 and 4 x 18.

As a comparison, here are our ages:

16
18
19
17
17
16
16 or 17 (can see Cy was 16 in October, but can't find DOB)
18
16 (Azzaoui is born in 1998 ffs, that is scary)
17 (just)
16

1 x 19, 2 x 18, 3 x 17, 5 x 16.

When you look at the ages like that, we've done well to keep ourselves up with them, and although they were the better team, we did enough to be encouraged, with this post in mind.

Edit: Oh and one another thing, I'm 99% sure we kicked off in both halves against Wolfsburg. How village is that :ROFLMAO:

Looks like we are giving away a 2 year age advantage on average - that's huge at this age

It's not about the winning, it's about developing them as players. By 19 years old a lot of our players will probably be loaned out and playing professional games.

Winning is nice aswell.

Thanks for that. Really is a big diff and Goddard is 16. Same age group as KWP, Harrison and Onomah.

Also we have been playing better than Leverkusen this morning but 0 -0 at HT

I'm sure we don't play in as many of these youth tournaments as we used to 3/4 years ago.

Played a Leverkusen side much more evenly balanced in terms of ages (though we were still the younger):

18
18
17
18
19
17
19
18
17
17
18

Went 1-0 down and looked to be going out, especially after a stonewall penalty was turned down late on. The bench was not impressed! He was like this for ages :ROFLMAO: :

Cy Goddard missed a great chance as we entered stoppage time, but even later on Winks (according to the announcer) got on the end of a cross in from the right and toe poked home an equaliser. Still a tough ask to qualify, but it gives us a chance.

Dinamo have just drawn 1-1 with bottom (and already eliminated) 04 Dusseldorf. That's a bit of a bonus for us. It doesn't change too much, in that we still need to beat Dinamo to have a chance of going through, but it puts more permutations in our favour. Beat Dinamo by 2 goals and we are 100% through. Whether a 1 goal win puts us through or not depends on if the table is decided by H2H or GD. I think it's GD which means it wouldn't. If we win by 1 goal, we'd also need Leverkusen to beat Wolfsburg - this game is before ours, so we'll know where we stand when we kick off.

Team for the big game: Voss, Kwp, Walkes, Mcqueen, Lesnisk, Winks, Onomah, Cy, Ross, Oduwa, Akindayini

The limited number of specialist defenders is catching up with us - Walkes and Lesniak both good midfield players drafted in to play as defenders - and not for the first time

Need to beat Dinamo Zagreb - think by 2 clear goals

Shame. Zagreb must be absolutely class to basically school this team. Strangely satisfying to see where we are relative to other academies. I wonder what Zagreb are doing in their set up that make them so good
