@yanno (re the other thread)

I got 75 minutes into this game before my Sky recoding inexplicably ended, have recorded the repeat later so I can watch the finish.

The last time I watched one of these tournaments was the U18 (or U17's) WC or Euro's about 4 years ago and England were absolutely shocking. There were only two players in the England team who were trying to play football and that was Sturridge and (our) Adam Smith.

I thought there was much more to be optimistic about after this game, the second half particularly, England were the better side and looked to play to feet.

Gomez the CB was impressive, I also liked the LB Moore (although think he's right footed), The Chelsea lad Brown (I'm sure I've seen before playing for their U21's against us last season) looked decent as well. The difference really was this time, none of the England boys looked like dimwitted cloggers as they did last time.

On to Onomah, who shows composure on the ball and made some nice moves and touches. Tecnically very good. There were just a couple of times I wished his movement was a tad more lively, but in this kind of game that was harsh maybe, and a minor quibble as generally he was very good.

I haven't seen much of him for Spurs, can someone tell me where he usually plays ?

thought Onomah was great. very good on the ball and showed confidence. don't forget this is as good as it gets for players his age competing against the best players in Europe. France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium all either failed to get to the tournament or got knocked out in it and Onomah started in the final against a good dutch team and looked good.

these 8 team minus Malta had to qualify to get to the qualifiers to get to the tourney so fair play to all the England players involved as they beat the best that Europe has to offer

B-C - there are others who have probably seen more of Onomah than me, but whenever I've watched him he looks like an attacking CM, who likes to get the ball and have a go: sometimes by playing a 1-2, sometimes by beating a man.

He's pretty direct. So not a Number 10 like Eriksen who's got a sixth sense for the movement of his teammates, and can deliver simple but clever passes. Onomah may need to develop a bit of patience: sometimes play the simple ball, keep possession and wait for the best moment to strike.

But he's only just 17. With good coaching, and surrounded by top players, I'm sure there's plenty to develop in his game.

Onomah has good technique, ability to beat a man, courage and directness. Plenty for Frank the Farmer or Tino to work with.

Malta goes into history books for hosting this England's U17 UEFA Championship triumph. I'm sure Josh Onomah will long cherish this great moment in his footballing career. I'm also sure he enjoyed his stay here with the lovely weather and our nations renowned friendliness and hospitality.

Well done England, well done Josh and the lads (y)

just read Windys Development Squad Roundup: http://windycoys.com/2014/05/development-squad-round-up/

Truly gutted to hear we let Lawrence Vigoroux join Liverpool, he looked a nice lad and I had hope he would turn into a decent player.

Does anyone know any details as to why we let him go?

We have several superior keepers at that level. Liverpool are really short of keepers at U21 level. He was decent, but never brilliant. Best to let brighter prospects have the game time.

Sorry yeah, I saw him get injured the other day. But he's the only Spurs player listed in the (official) squad, I am surprised Carroll's not ? Maybe because he's still involved in the play off ?

I think the Toulon tourney is u20 so he might be too old, Kane's younger than him I think

Sad to leave the club after 13 years! But looking forward to a new challenge

Shame for Miles - always 2nd against Jordan Archer. but a decent keeper, but almost certainly never going to make it at Spurs.

With Lawrence Vigoroux also leaving, that leaves Spurs with the following young keepers :

Jordan Archer (now 21), Luke McGee (now 18), Harry Voss (age 17)

Players offerered conracts include Suleymane Coulibaly plus most of the Academy Year 2 (except Akinbayini who has a 3rd year Acemy deal).

Nathan Oduwa, Dominic Ball and Grant Hall have been offered extended deals and accepted them - as has Jon Obika !

A few players retained whose futures might be uncertain include Grant Wrd, Iago Falque, Christian Ceballos,

Off subject, Brad Freidal is being retained !

Spent a couple of minutes trying to fugure out who 'Bezerra Maciel Junior' was who had been reained - penny dropped...its Paulhino !

Bloody hell, do you know what we have planned for Obika, he's been around for years!

Off subject, ecstatic we've offered Friedel a new deal :D

Pure guess, but as he's now 23 we will not get a 'Development fee' if we relkease him (that stops at age 22 I think), so decision has been to retainn him but to sell hi in due course like we did to Simon Dawkins. I think he's ok at Championship level so we may get say £500k
