Whilst you are here, the youth system and how we get players into the first team squad has been much discussed in recent times. So if I may ask a few questions...

- What have been Dean and the rest of the U21's been told about their progression, will there be opportunities for them in cup games etc?
- Do they train with the senior squad or as their own separate group?
- How much interaction do they have with AVB and the first team coaching staff?

Appreciate any responses.

He trains with the development squad.:)

Ok. But do the development squad then train with the senior squad at all, under AVB's watchful eye?

Sorry for more questions, but thats the bit I am interested in, because if they development squad/U21's don't train with the main squad at all, then its pretty much impossible to compare them against the senior squad players in their positions (eg's does Carroll look better than Huddlestone, or Parrett look better than Livermore) and so assess if any of the young players can add to the first team squad.

Why is Parrett being overlooked by all of you? He has had consistently good games for the U21's all season.
I think because we messed him about abit imo, he did VERY well at charlton 2 years ago, now the season after we then sent him on loan to yeovil who where struggling in league 1 at the time and tbh that didnt help him imo, he should of gone to a championship club or at least Charlton or a top team in the league

I think he will be a prem player but with us being stacked in that position a loan move to championship is needed now, for him to progress as with alot of our prospects he is at risk of stalling or regressing in his development. He also hasnt been included in the first team unfortunate really.

Just think he's a forgotten man for most.
As you can see Spursidol haven't added Ryan Mason neither.
Many will assume it's too late for those that haven't made it of the 1990/91 age group,
and that if opportunities show up it will be the age group below them (like Luongo) that will get the shot.
Could say Obika got his chance against Leeds, and the missed goal attempt is enough to never make it at Spurs.

Personally I think Adam Smith, Dean Parrett, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend are all capable of doing well at Premier League level and they aren't kids any more - will be considered as senior footballers next season (have to be registered as one of the 25 seniors to play). Far less talented and younger players are doing ok in the Premier League, it's difficult to break through at Spurs though. 10 years ago they'd probably be regulars already.
I personally rate Mason higher than any other prospect and he has always been our big hope, I know Clive Allen had high hopes for him when he was 16/17 and tbh if he didnt have his back injuries, he would be in our first team imo! But ITK suggests that he may be on his way out as he has said he wants game time which is unfortunate imo.

I think for the first time ever we have a lot premiership players in our academy but unfortunately I dont see many being with us, as I don't think we have addressed to find a way of getting them to our first team especially with the attacking positions and the loan system seems to problem with prem loans for our attacking players(doesnt help that they are very slight, as the team wanting to loan don't want slight players imo unless they are a superstar)

Carroll, Mason and Townsend train with the first team
I know under Harry, he would include some of the loanees one day of the two days they trained with Tottenham, I know kane and carroll would play saturday in league 1, against a reserve team on monday with spurs development squad, then train with VDV and Modric on tuesday and back to the O's on Wednesday.

I hope this is continuing at the moment tbh, I hope our philosophy that has been installed under Arneson/Moniz is the same to that of our new team

I know an interesting story about Dean Parrett, you can take it with a pinch of salt if you want. Apparently Dean was really impressing whilst on loan at Charlton there and putting huge efforts in at training. Management thought extremely highly of him and Spurs heard about this.
Apparently a few of the senior pro's at Charlton didn't take too kindly to Dean showing them up in training. A few of the French boys collared him in the shower and told him he had to stop otherwise there would be consequences. Never the same player after that, unsurprisingly as a young lad an incident like that is bound to have some effect.

As I said, take this with a pinch of salt but this comes from an extremely reliable source at Charlton. Could explain his failure to develop to his full potential.

Spurs are one of the teams invited for this years AEGON Future Cup. It's an International youth tournament for U17's hosted by Ajax.

2 more clubs will be unveiled, but the other clubs who have been confirmed already are Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, Anderlecht and Toronto FC.

Ajax won the final last year against Manchester United.

Thanks for that - from 30 March to 1 April - Spurs first entry into this competition, although they enter quite a few for different age groups throughout tyhe season.

I think to be fair to Spursidol he was just going on the Freund comments where he mentioned Livermore, Carroll and Luongo as being options to fill in for Sandro and so included them in the midfield options on that basis.

Correct - there are several other players I could have included such as Dean Parreett , Ryan Mason et al as being perfectly possible youngsters to start to bleed intio the first team but limited my answer to those that Feund had mentioned.

But it seems to be tougher than ever this season to get the youngsters into any first team squad. Just hope they continue to bust a gut and AVB/Freund respond to that !

Not sure how Carroll works as a replacement for Sandro, hard to imagine a greater contrast in style.

True but I think Freund was thinking in terms of filling a CM spot - I could see a Carroll/Dembele CM partnership working in some matches (replacing a SAndro/Dembele partnership) purely because Dembele looks formidable enough to look after himself - and Carroll can look after more of the creative stuff (but he's not averse to putting himself about if necessary - and equally Mason, Parrett and Luongo could equally come in to do a job as a CM, although that's much more likely in the 'lesser games or off the bench as they have limited first team experience.

Massimo Luongo has revealed that he was star struck when he first began training with the Tottenham seniors.
The 20-year old Australian midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane in January 2011 and admits to feeling a sense of nervousness when he first came across the stars of the North London club.
“I haven’t had a great deal of contact with the boss Andre Villas-Boas but last season and also in pre-season I was out there on the training pitch with the likes of Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Emmanuel Adebayor and Aaron Lennon and was initially totally starstruck,” he said.

“But it gets to the stage where you don’t think too much of it anymore and you realise that you can compete with them and are not scared to relax and play your natural game.
“Lennon, Defoe and our captain Michael Dawson are all good with the younger boys and always happy to help and pass on bits of advice.”

Just got me curious if indeed any of the 1st team does take on any kind of mentor role with the youngsters? That or perhaps if you could nominate a senior to mentor a youngster who would you choose and why?

Well one thing I can confirm from reaction of charlton fans is that he was brilliant for them and may explain why he didnt go back to Charlton which I found very strange at the time

Carroll, Mason and Townsend train with the first team
I must say, it is hard to see much room for PT for players like Carroll, Mason, and Pritchard,... especially with the signing of Holtby. Not sure, but THudd and Livermore could move in this window, but I am not sure that will make too much difference. Townsend has not seemed to impress when given opportunity, but at least gets to the bench. John Bostock returns from loan at Swindon now,... no room for him either. I think Spurs want to keep Pritchard and Carroll, but the rest do not seem to hold much value for AVB & Co :mask:
