I still feel Obika should be given some cameos this season with the first team. He's a physical presence with good pace. While he wasn't great against Leeds, I didn't think he was as bad as some people made him out to be.

I agree with you - but still not 100% convinced that he is physically strong enough to lead the line (which is where we really want him) in the first team, and other areas are not as good as we might like. However I think a first team outing or two (or a good loan) is the only way to test this out. Love to AVB or Steffen's views on Obika !

2nd Half

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial
  • 46. Goal Man Utd 1-1. Super strike by Thorpe as he drives into Miles' top left corner. This will make for an interesting half

1-1 and a stunner from Thorpe. wow
Doron Salomon@DoronSalomon
2-1 Spurs straight away. Livermore heads in after the first header hit the bar

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial
49. GOAL! 2-1 Spurs. Instant reply from Obika! Naughton crosses for Kane to head onto the bar and Obika is there to nod home rebound

Doron Salomon@DoronSalomon
Only going off the Spurs guy here. Who scored them? Are u being serious? Both Spurs scorers wrong..

Man U fan not agreeing with who scored the goals - not whether the goals were good. Interesting !

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial
68. Chances! Kane swivels and hits from 18 yds but the keeper palms wide and Ceballos' cross/shot from the right almost drops under the bar

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial
74. Chance! Wonderful play by Spurs sees Obika force a top save before Carroll heads the rebound over the bar. Still 2-1 Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial
83. Chance! Parrett drives towards the edge of the box and drives low but the keeper claws the ball wide

Tottenham Hotspur@SpursOfficial
90. GOAL! 3-1 Spurs. That should end it! Parrett races down the left and draws his man before finding Obika free in the middle to slot home

Final score for the U-21today was 3-1 to Spurs. Obika with two goals after United equalise.

Interesting to see who is credited with all goals - from reports could be Obika with 3,2 or 1 with Ceballos and Livermore also credited with 2 of the goals !

Good result for the lads. Lets just hope we can start turing the youths into top players instead of letting them go to lower leagues

At the moment Spurs are running away with the Elite u21 league. After this game the table will be :

.............Played......Goal Diff.......Points
Spurs..........5..........14-6...(+8)....13
West Ham....3..........6-3....(+3)......6
Liverpool......3..........4-3.....(+1).....6
ManU...........3..........4-5.....(-1).....4
West Brom...3..........2-3....(-1)......2
Arsenal........3..........3-5....(-2)......2
South'ton......4.........5-8.....(-3)......2
Wolves.........4.........5-11.... (-6)....1
http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/...mier-league-tables.html?paramYouthStage=ELITE

However due to a combination of scheduling and matches being switched due to weather conditions, all of Spurs matches have been at home, and whilst we have beaten the 3 sides below us - West Ham, Liverpool and Man U, we have to go away to their grounds later. Spurs have dropped 2 points on one draw (all the other matches were drawn) whereas all other teams have lost one or more matches.

None the less its a promising picture.

Next Friday, Spurs face Arsenal at hiome.

Fryers sounds like he's been phenomenal going forward. Very good to hear.

He's an interesting talent for sure. Experience in youth levels at CB, LB and CDM. If he can continue to develop, we could have a really nice player that will give us quality depth at multiple positions.

I was speaking to a Manc supporting mate (I know, I know  - but long-standing, not a glory hunter, Home/Away/Europe, actually plays, himself), and he said they most definitely do rate him very very highly and are most definitely very very pissed off at lose him (HA...take that Beetroot Head :greyalien:).

p.s. Great workd, as per, SI.

Good result, although given the team we put out we had to go into that game as favourites. In fact, I wonder what level that team could hold it's own at...

How many over 21 players are allowed? Naughton, Parrett, Obika arent all u21 are they?

3 over 21 players are allowed.

Parrett is 20, but Naughton, Livermore and Obika are over 21.

Man U had a much more experienced team than Spurs had today when we played them at Altringham in September in the Group stages

Good point.

Think they could certainly give someone like QPR an interesting game, or if not a middle ranking Championship side ! Maybe someone should suggest a freindly is organised !

Is Obika a similar striker like Victor Anichebe from Everton or how would you guys describe him?

I would guess the answer is probably very unlike Anichebe (who seems to me a classic English CF, tall and fast)

I think Obika is probably about 5' 10'' (although Wiki says 6' 0''), he is powerfully built but I am nolt sure whether at this point in time he is strong enough to lead the line in the Premiership which is the role he's played at Spurs - but he's never been tested at that level so its not nown. Speed wise, he's ok but I would not say that he is fast

He looked decent (but not top rate) in the Academy and seemed to put a spurt on coinciding with 'arry arriviing at Spurs when he won an award as the 'most improved young player' and also had a decent run out in a couple of UEFA Cup games before going on loan. He had several decent loan spells in Legue 1 (especially Yeovil) before trying the Chalpionship - and for whatever reason just seemed not to be able to handle it. He returned to Yeovil a couple of times where they seemed to use him more on the wing, and the goals seemed to dry up almost completely.

Most youth team watchers concluded that he was not good enough 2 years ago - and were surprised to see him still here at the start of this seasson. However this season in the u 21's either he's had some good pre-season coaching, recovered his confidence or whatever but although now 22 (ie older than the average u21 player), he's looked a decent striker - currrently the highest scoring striker at Spurs across first team/u21's/u 19's and u 18's.. The goals have also come from feet and head - not from free kicks or that many penalties.

So he's a bit of an enigma. IMO either AVB needs to try him out this season from the bench or to include him in his pre-season plans....because we just might have a useful striker on our hands. I doubt if he will be an overnight success, but he might get to be a first team striker in say 2 years. On the other hand he may not !
