Don't get your knickers in twist, my reply was clearly to your point "I don't think it matters that he is big for his age" All I said is that size and physique can skew everything in youth football, so making judgements is a real skill.

Jesus wept

Knickers not in twist, just politely pointing out that because you had failed to appreciate the context of the sentence you quoted, your post was completely and utterly meaningless. It was so because there is nothing that you said in response that I didn't know or didn't agree with. Indeed, it was inherent to my post (and many I have made in this lengthy thread) that I do understand this and agree fully. I have read your post several times, and it reads very simply as though you believe I do not understand the inherent difficulties of selecting big-for-their-age players, and feel the need to enlighten me. if that wasn't your intention, I would suggest maybe you composed it rather poorly.

Let me explain (again ): I was answering a specific post about a specific player. That player is a big unit, but had shown several skillful (or technical touches). In relation to the debate about this, I was pointing out that it doesn't matter if a player is big strictly in the sense that big players aren't inherently excluded from, or devoid of, the ability to be skillfull (or technical). What matters is that they are part of a youth-system (like ours) that isn't selecting because they are big, powerful athletes, but selecting them based on technical ability with the football.

That is the whole focus of the changes Mr Levy has made at the club, a more European approach, and one I have discussed at length on several occasions, both in this thread and in others. I don't see that it would be viable for me to do so if I was not cognisant of the facts you so kindly and correctly (but utterly meaningless in the context of my post) pointed out to me.

I have already explained to you, once, that I was making a specific point, in relation to a specific post, and dealing with a specific player, and that you had taken the first sentence out of context. Maybe you should have read the whole post, rather than just reading the bit telling you you had failed to understand and got pissy about that.

Please, like, I have taken the time to compose this, actually read what I have said, Please (y)

Just for the record, I know that size and physique can skew everything in youth football, so making judgements is a real skill and never said anything (when taken in the correct context - i.e. not just reading the first sentence and responding to it) that contradicts the understanding that size and physique can skew everything in youth football, so making judgements is a real skill nor indicated that I had no understanding that size and physique can skew everything in youth football, so making judgements is a real skill but, instead, almost every post in this thread, and many away from it, show an intimate understanding that size and physique can skew everything in youth football, so making judgements is a real skill.

I remain your friend

Wolves match report - its a pretty good report giving quite a lot of description of Spurs and much less bias than many I have read. Its clear we had a number of chances in first half we could and probably should have put away to put tyhe matrch beyond reach.

However we did not and Wolves halftime team talk seems to have brought them out foir the second half playing at a much higher level than they had before - surprising even the watching Wolves fans.

Partnng comment on what Wolves thoiught of Spurs from their resident Wolves youth watcher :

If it's true that the wolves team played a lot better in the second half then that's not so bad. No one should ever give up a 2-0 lead though.

OS
U21S WILL LEARN FROM LOSS - RAMSEY

Posted 05 March 2013 07:57am
Chris Ramsey said our Under-21s will 'learn lessons' from their first defeat of the Elite Group stage of the Barclays U21 Premier League.
The team's unbeaten run in this second phase of the competition came to an end with a 4-3 loss against Wolves at AFC Telford United FC on Monday night.

Goals from Shaq Coulthirst and Jack Munns looked to have put the lads in control but Wolves fired back with two goals in two minutes to level on the hour.

Dean Parrett restored the lead at 3-2 with 15 minutes remaining but the home side were not to be denied and won it with two goals in the final 10 minutes.

It was only the team's second defeat in the 17 matches in the Barclays U21 Premier League and they still sit top of the Elite Group with five wins, a draw and now one defeat in seven matches.

"We learned a few harsh lessons and sometimes a defeat highlights those lessons for you," said Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach.

"At times, you learn more from getting beaten, rather than pulling the game around. We had enough chances to do that but we still wouldn't have been happy with the performance.

"Ultimately, it was one of those midweek games that the lads have got to get used to, games where we want to see a consistency in their performances.

"Dean Parrett was outstanding throughout, making chances, surging runs, breaking up play in midfield and he always looked a threat.

"We've only had two defeats in 17 and there is always going to be an occasion where it doesn't go right. We all hope the players learn from it it and come back stronger against West Brom on Monday."

Parrett has been playing well all season, although stepping it up a couple of notches a bouple of months ago to be looking very good.

Glad that he's catching the coaches eye after one or two season's when he's not really shone in loans and lost the first half of last seasonn - although that was after starring for E u 20's.

Maybe his natural position on these performances is as an understudy for Dembele.

Also glad to see Coulthirst step up to the u21's. He's still very much learning but that's his second goal in 2 appearances for u21's (his 19th of the season - very good with 2 or 3 months still to go) which is a good trait to have as a striker. Noticeable possibly that all the reports mentioned him a lot in the first half but less so in the second half when he might well be tiring as he adjusts to playing at the higher level - but that physical endurance will come. By next season he will probably be a demonn at this level

Senior Professional Phase Coach?

What a mouthful.

All the staff had a renaming exercise over the summer - the job titles are logical (Professional phase = post Academy) but awful sounding.

Thought it might be of interest to see who is scoring the youth teams goals - all 160 of them tto date !

Jonathan Obika's total is now being rapidly overtaken by Shaq Coulthirst (now that Obika is on loan). It would take some time to go through the records but I'd guess that Shaq has got his 19 goals in about 25 or so matches at all levels, giving him about 0.75 goals per game average.

Good to see the sheer number of goalscorers as well

He's scored 2 goals in 2 matches for the U21s

5 goals in 5(2) appearances in the NextGen

4 goals in 3 matches in the Youth Cup

1 goal in 1 eight minute sub appearance for the Spurs XI

7 goals in 11 matches for the U18s

That's 19 goals in just 21(3) total appearances so far this season; so pretty much spot on SpursIdol... Shaq Attack 2013! Can't wait to see this young'un bang in the goals for our senior team in a couple years!

Edit: Last campaign he scored 11 goals in 21 appearances for the U18s and 2 goals in 1(1) appearances in the NextGen Series, playing a majority of his time on the left wing...

I've had a thread on Footytube since the start of the season keeping track of pretty much all Youth Team information (with exception of the Youth Cup and Spurs XI). A majority of the info has been taken from the OS, Spurs Odyssey, and Windys Blog... If you're looking for information on one player you can just press Ctrl+F and type in his last name...

Is the loan window shut yet? I'm wondering if some league 1 side is going to want to take Shaq off us for the rest of the season.

Tricky call.

He's just broken through into u21's and may still be managing the step up (the phyicality/endurance issues rather than tequnique). IMO he could do well to contnue to play at that level for the rest of this seasonn with a view to a League 1 loan next season.

On the other hand if the coaches think he's fully handling the u 21's then taking another step up and going to a League 1 team is obviously good for him. I think 'youth loans' to a league 1 club can happen until almost the end of March, so it could be that Spurs give Shaq as long as possible before loaning him out.

Rule 53.3.2 - Looks like student loans can be made to League 1 clubs until 5pm on 4th Thursday in March

Will the Next Gen final be played at Orient again?

Just saw the Gooners beat Inter so they are in the quarters. That would be some final!

No wonder they had to start charging interest on them!

Semi's and Final to played in Lake Como. Bit of shame should Spurs get there.

NextGeneration @NextGenSeries
All of the games will be shown LIVE via our broadcast partners with the fixtures set for March 29th (Semi-finals) and April 1st (Final)

First we need to get past Sporrting Lisbon at home - Wednesday March 20th at Brisbane Road.

A Spurs X! played a pre-season freindly at Calcio Como, but shame its not in a place which is a bit more accssible.- especially as the only Italian team left in the competition still has to play Rosenburgh to qualify for their quarter final match against Chelsea.

The 4 English based teams are all at home in the quarter finals so a London venue for the semi finals/finals might well be more convenient for fans - if Juventos do not get to the semi finals, I think the Calcio Como Stadium (capacity 13,602)could be pretty empty.

The Quarter Finals fixtures are now :

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Sporting CP
Chelsea vs. Juventus/Rosenborg
Aston Villa vs. Olympiacos
Arsenal vs. CSKA

William Ekong, 19, (CB) is on trial at Brentford - he's not played for the development squad this season (been on trial at various Dutch clubs) and although not of a bad standard (Dutch u 19 international) has rarely been a first team starter for U 18's or u 19's. Out of contract at end of this season, and good move for him if he gets it.

Tomorrow, Saturday 12.00, Wolves u18's v Spurs u 18's

Spurs have been starting to get into a bit of form in the last few weeks and lead their table on goal difference, despite introducing (as they regularly do at this time of year) some of the u 16's into the side, more of the Academy year 1 players are involved whilst the Academy 2nd Years incrreasingly stop playing for u 18's
