Didn't realize Arsenal made the next gen final, hope they lose against Sporting.

They didn't. Chelsea beat them 4-3. And Sporting lost to Villa. 3-1. Remarkable from a group of youngsters that Villa are rightly very excited about.

3rd place ply-off going on at the moment.

oh ok lol, cool. I saw some of the Villa V Sporting game on eurosport but it was 0-0 when I saw it and then just saw that fixture going on and thought it was the final. Didn't know they did 3rd/4th place play off.

Seems like even if Villa do go down they're doing something right with their youth at least.

Also just watched the Pritchard and Ceballos videos, Pritchard stood out for me more when I watched them in the Inter game a few years back but they both look at the similar level now judging by those vids, Ceballos seemed way too lightweight wheen I saw him but that should always be something that can be sorted out over time. He has a great touch and technique though, it's just so difficult to judge when seeing them playing against other kids as opposed to adults.

Time will tell but here's hoping, maybe they can get some game time with the first team pre season and see how they go. I can't see the benefit loaning someone like Ceballos to a championship team though, he'll probably drown.

Well I am also certain Levy has invested the money expecting such results, I am not so certain he will get the results he wants (as he frequently doesn't i.e. Olympic stadium and several transfer deals)

I wasn't asking for a dead cert, just personal opinion from those who watch the players as to who are the standouts with potential PL or higher PL level quality.

I know its impossible to know for sure, one can impress greatly at youth level like Barnard but not have what it takes in the pros for one reason or another where as other youngsters can go under the radar at youth level and be late bloomers (Ian Wright for example)

Still I find it interesting to hear from those with first hand knowledge of our youngsters who they believe are "the ones to watch" so to speak

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question btw

Sorry if I sounded a bit brusque - was about to run for a plane.

Spurs have a lot of good youngsters who could make it, assessing who could make it to Spurs first team is more tricky. Perhaps I cam illustrate this best with our young goalkeepers :

Jordan Archer : Standout GK in the Academy followed up by excellent season on loan at Bishops Storrtford (outstanding for a 17/18 year old), followed up this season with another good season on loan at Wycombe (League 2) loan. Other than Butland (and now Miles) cannot think of too many other gk's on loan. Next season loan in League 1 or even possibly Championship almost guaranteed meaning that by age 20/21 he will have had Championship experience (young for a gk) setting him up for a try to get into Spurs first team.

Jonathan Miles : Found it difficult in Academy aganst Archer and only given 3rd year Academy rather than pro contract last year, but took chance in Spurs Nextgen u19 team very well with some outstanding performances. Followed that up with a good standard in Spurs u 21's earning a loan to League 2 Dagenham & Redbridge (and note comment above about other GK's on loan). if he plays well on loan, likely next season full season on loan in League 2 or possibly League 1.

Lawrence Vigouroux : Released by Brentford as a youngster but joined Spurs at end of last season. Generally looked good in Nextgen u19 and u 21, but a few mistakes in the lasyt couple of months after some fairly consisently good goalkeeping earned place for Chile u 20 squad. Same age as Archer and Miles so likely u 21's next season ? But could get a loan ?

Luke McGee : Now in first year academy so 16/17 now and already about 6' 3''. Made E u 17 and Spurs u 18 debuts at a young age, circa 14 and this season has combined playing u 18's and a couple of Nextgen u 19 matches looking very good. Next season NexttGen u 19 goalkeeper, possibly some experience at u 21's..

Liam Priestly : Same intake as Luke McGee and having problems in getting match time given McGee's form. Had the honour of Pat Jennings signing his contract papers at Spurs. Has played a couple of u 18 games this season, more usually on bench but has also sat on u 19 and even u 21 bench suggesting Spurs think he has a future. Next season sharing u 18 goalkeeping duties with Voss ?

Harry Voss : This season's u 16 goalkeeper who had u 18 debut last season as a 14 year old. Seems to be highly rated again

Alfie Whitman : Aged about 13 but called up earlier this season for England GK training camp as one of the most promising gk's in the u 16 group.

IMO Spurs could have maybe two goalkeepers join the first team squad, providing they are a couple of years apart. ATM, Archer and McGee seem the most likely.

However if Archer or McGee slip up in the next couple of years, I could see Miles and Voss being the lucky two. I do think we could find Spurs having 2-4 goalkeepers in the PL/Championship/League 1 (with 1 or 2 in Spurs first team) as we really do seem to have some excellent young goalkeepers.

Point I am trying to emphasise here is that whilst we have lots oif good prospects, only 1 or 2 are likely to make it at Spurs.

RussJames list is a reasonable list as at today's date, drawn as he says from Windy and Ray Lo's reports - but its important to note that players go up and down in people's estimation. So for example Joanthan Obika who looked good about 3 years ago has looked poor for the last 3 years, but looked pretty interesting in the first 6 months of this season for u 21's, but less so on loan at Charlton. IMO Spurs will decide to persist with him until January next year, but then if he does not come good he will be let go.

Other players not on his list :

Kevin Stewart - CB/LB/RB.
Tomislav Gomelt - forward (but might make it other than at Spurs)
Ryan Fredericks - RW/RB. Has not appeared for first team squad after Europa appearances last season and suffered from poorly chosen loan this season. Ideally get involvement in next years pre-season to see where he goes.
Cameron Lancaster - striker, difficult to assess as not appeared this season due to recovery from op, but if comes back to full fitness could be interesting as has little competition at his age. Interesting first team cameo last season.
In Academy Year 2, aside from Coulthirst, McEvoy and Bentelab, the other potential players include Dominic Ball (CM/CB) - better as a CM imo, scored 4 for NI u19's a couple of months ago, and Roman Michael-Percil a goalscoring right forward/rfb. The other potential is Oliver Modeste who has not played for a year due to a non footballing head injury, but was a very good looking CB/LB. Connor Ogilvie (Academy year 1) plays in the same positions and scores highly in anticipation.reading play and other attributes but is not the fastest, but also looks a talent.

There are some really interesting players in Academy year 1 or under 16's, but Spurs youth watchers have not had that much time to see them (usually we only see them fir u 18's), but of those a preliminary list of the most interesting would include :

Harry Winks (CM), Filip Lesniak (CM), Nathan Oduwa (forward, usually left sided), Joshua Onomah (CM/AM) all of whom who have played or looked above their age group.

With the depth of talent at Spurs, imo its easier to say 1-3 players could join the first team squad for eavch of the next 5 years (based upon the ones seeen), but exactly who these players will be is a bit of a lottery - with the winners being the ones who take their chances through injuries, loans, shortages in the squad etc.

how many bad loan moves is he gonna have? hes just not as good as some of you believe
Er this one is his first truly bad loan and his only other bad loan was at Millwall and that was because they played Kane in his position. Actually he has had more success than our very own Tom Carroll tbh

Has this been posted yet?

http://vimeo.com/user10724243/videos

It's a bunch of video compilations of a number of our youths. Just watched 15 mins of Alex Pritchard (probably the most I have seen of him!) so starting to believe the hype!!

Lol, yeah I posted them yesterday... But HOLY SHIT you guys have quite the following on this site. Before I posted those video's, Pritchard's compilation had only 1 view for the entire month of March, since I've posted them it's gotten 734 views in just two days, and that's just Pritchard's video!! I've been a member of quite a few Spurs blogs and forums over the past couple years, but this site truly is the king of them all.

IMO SC has one of the largest memberships, but perhaps more relevantly this thread has oveer 75,000 views  (however that is measured), making it one of the larger threads by that stat. - and suggests that this thread by itself is larger than some smaller complete blogs/forums.

Several posters have been kind enough to say they they enjoy this thread and learn quite a lot from it (look back at the last 120 pages :D ) - I suspect because I and quite a a few others (Beats, SP and too many to mention) post whatever we can find on the web and/or personal experiences to keep the thread up to date and informative (which from a personal POV is satisfying having set the thread up, its exceeeded my expectations for popularity, proud to have set it up). So no great surprise at your observations ! Oh......and welcome !

I didnt manage to watch all the game, but from what i did see Ajax were in control for most of it, but we defended very well as a team until the later stages.

Technically Ajax were better on the ball and more comfortable with their passing. Long, short, they were passing very well, but as soon as they approached our third they were snuffed out by some great defending from the two CB's and CM. As well as their passing, their movement was pretty good, but our boys held the position and tracked back and made it very difficult.

When we did get a spell, we played some nice triangles around the MF, but were often let down by the final ball to one of our attackers. That, and the fact Ajax were very well organised defensively meant we didnt really create many openings.

I was impressed with Oduwa who controlled the ball well and always looked to attack down the right flank and create something, but far too often he was snuffed out by two Ajax players.

In the second half Joe Pritchard, i think, created an opening with a nice spin and shot, and we were very close from a set piece, and Lesniak in MF had a long rane effot just sail wide. He covered alot of ground during the match and wasn't afraid to get stuck in. very much in the Modric/Xavi mould of a MF.

Things were still tight, and we were pressing but not high up the pitch like our dutch opponents. As the second half wore on, the game began to open up, Ajax played a couple of balls over the top of the defence that stretched us, and we were lucky not to concede.

Then towards the end, one of our CH's decided to go on a Caulker-esqu run, slalomed past a few players and found himself out on the left flank at other end when he he was tackled. The ball broke to an Ajax MF (dont know his name, but was one of their best players) who then played a ball over the top into space, for one of the Ajax attackers to run into the gaping hole vacated by the defender. 1-0 Ajax.

After that, we seem to wake up and started holding possession further up the pitch, but struggled to break down a strong Ajax defence.

Some observations were that we have some decent sized boys out there that were comfortable on the ball. However, compared to Ajax, they didnt have the same fluidity and cohessiveness in their game. Im not sure if it's because we fielded younger, more inexperienced players, or Ajax we simply superior.

Sorry i cant name names, but i only recognised two or three names at the beginning, and the commentary was not in English, and were not able to name any of the boys during the game!
