We have to get rid of the midfield deadwood Livermore, Huddle, Parker. They offer nearly nothing and if some are injured or not fit I think we will do well with Carroll or a bit of Falque/ Bentaleb in there.
We have a great U21 team but we really struggle to make them to first team players because they lack of game time. Just award them 1 or 2 places on the bench every time.

I only saw the last 15 but we were so superior to them it's unreal.

Carroll really should be seeing more first team football and must be ahead of players like Huddlestone and Livermore.

I think what's really interesting is how incisive some of our passing was - we complained frequently last year that the seniors couldn't make a killer pass. This evening they were making them practically every few minutes! Obviously it's a different standard (and let's face it, defending really is a dieing art) but they were massively impressive.

He's a proper big unit now aswell, if he keeps improving over the next 2 years like he has been I think he's got a chance of making it with us.

Yep, tonight was the first time i've ever thought that! I hope Harry imprints on Soldado like a duckling and picks up as much as he can, as he's a perfect person to learn from.

Dont think its fair to say Scott Parker is "deadwood that offers nothing" TBH

I was amazed by Kane tonight - he's come on absolute leaps and bounds over the summer. His first touch and his control are so much better now!

Id be interested to know at what stage of development Chelsea's 2 CBs are at, but I too thought he was one of our better performers. Some of his turns were great, and I really like his passing and awareness. Once he learns to really use his size (no tips from hudd :D ) then I think we will have a good player on our hands.

It may be a bit harsh and he was great 2011/2012. But I never understood the point starting him in AVBs system.

I would say thank you Scotty, but time to move on.

Maybe its a good time to sell him, especially if we can get Capoue in, but to me 'deadwood' would refer to a player thats not getting any game time, and not contributing anything.

I've never understood these knockers [sic.] who constantly moan about how Kane hasn't got a chance of making it in the big league. I've always been impressed with him: his vision and link-up play are good for a kid his age. I suspect they aren't sure of his best position; that and the fact that he seems to have been on the scene for so long makes them think he is older than he is/the old fallacy that a kid has to break through in the big leagues, like wot Rooney did, otherwise he's crap. I didn't even bother mentioning him, Carroll and Falque as someone would point out how much experience they have, etc. Doesn't mean I wasn't impressed, I have been boring on about Carroll for the last three seasons...I suspect I am in danger of having an unhealthy fixation on the lad

Just got back from watching the game.

Very, very impressed with the team, although the Chelsea boys were pretty poor.

Never a penalty, blatant dive.

Standouts for me.

No.5 - Ball - first time I've seen him play, very impressive ball playing, forward running centre half.

Kane - this standard is below him, same with Carroll & Falque.

Carroll bossed the whole game, he is a very tidy player, good with both feet, great passer, gets in and around the place.

Chelsea were chasing shadows to be fair. There is a gulf between this level and the first team obviously, but Kane, Carroll in particular and Falque and probably Bentelab really need to play a higher standard - ie. loan to a prem/shampiosnhip side for a season to give them that chance.

Even the Chelsea fans were very impressed with our team.

Decent turn out, guess I'll be watching a lot of the Chelsea U21's as they play on my doorstep and it doesn't cost a thing - good standard of football, much better than Aldershot themselves ;-)

The Chelsea CB's weren't at the level of Kane/F;laque in all fairness.

They did have a very decent centre midfielder - bit of a unit, but he simply didn't have the players around him, especially with Carroll and Bentelab closing and harrassing as well as they did.

Agree, in the last 15 minutes alone we had about 5 1v1's.

I'll be honest SP, even though I still stand by my statement that I would have preferred people like Kane, Falque etc to have been given game time instead of people like Dempsey, but I have to say, even on a good day, I still find Kane a bit frustrating. He shoots at times when he should play in a team mate and his finishing can lack composure.

He can be frustrating. And I am not sure that lone front-man is his best role.
But...like I said, I think folk think that because he has been on the scene for so long that he is older than he is. He is 20 YO (awwwwww, just a stripling...So desperately tries to look magnanimous rather than jealous as hell :cautious:). Tonight, there were times when I felt he could have gone left and chose right, and vice versa, but is also something I think is improving, and I guess we are back to that stage where I seem to have wider parameters for imperfection, as no player is perfect and, as Fantasy Football ( yes, that Chelsea tosser ) showed, even Pele can be made to look pathetically bad by putting together the right highlights reel. He still gets plenty right, especially considering he was rightly playing at his age-level tonight and looked like one of the stand-out players. Shoots-at-times when he should play team mates in - wait-a-minute, are we talking about Gareth Bale, here (and no it's not JD...as you wouldn't have to qualify that sheeeeeeite :)). I can't say that Kane will make it at WHL, but the ITK seems to be firm and consistent in saying he is very highly thought of - and I, for one, find that plausible.

As for the Dempster...unlike any of our other players in the last 20 and odd years he scored a winner at OT, he has an eternal place in my heart (albeit in that bit at the back where the lighting is poor and the expensive faux silk wall-hanging has come loose...if twernt for his Gollum eyes reflecting so much light, it would be very easy to miss him ).

Ceballos did not play. Does it mean he will be involve with the senior team?

Coulibaly, Lancaster, McEvoy, Fryers and Veljkovic were also not playing tonight. Don't think we can assume all these plus Ceballos will be involved against Espanyol !
