Winks and PEH look rusty, missing some easy passes. Dele's control looks off, knocking his first touch yards in front of him.

That said we're the better side imo. Created two good chances. That said we created a great one for Everton, their only good chance really from a really braindead pass from Davies. Otherwise we look solid.

You lot are kidding yourselves if you think Winks is coming off at half time. He's on until the 60th minute at least.

Some great ball movement towards the end of the half and a few good chances made. Pickford had 2 good saves which is unlike him. Everton have looked good in defense but I think we can break them down in the second half.

I worry about their counter attacking with Richarlson, luckily he blew his big chance. Only one mistake so far for us IMO the Davies back pass that setup their best chance.

Dele needs to drop deeper, I have no clue why he’s playing higher than Kane in both defense and attack. Seriously WTF, he has been anonymous and it’s all down to his positioning.

we’re so easy to press because our CMs will only pass slowly sideways or backwards and Dele never drops deep to play combinations.

And if he does drop deep he wants 5 touches every time.

Hmm, a real lack of dynamism in the midfield.

Really missing Lo Celso.

need someone to break the lines

Ndombele?

Thought we have been decent but could be better.

Peh, apart from a couple of bloopers has been excellent at hunting down the ball. Son looks dangerous but terrible set pieces.

We look the more likely to score, but still a bit wooden.

On a side not James looks a lovely signing and Pickford looks like a disaster waiting to happen. When this Everton side gets settled they could really be looking higher up the table. Great ability on the ball in the middle of the park.

Playing this counter attacking system needs players to be efficient with the limited amount of possession we have, I.e. players that can keep the ball under pressure and play forwards. Some of our players just aren't good enough with the ball. We are missing composure, technique and passing ability in midfield especially.

Alli isn't half the player with eriksen gone. His best attribute is arriving in the box late and timing of runs and we don't have a single player with the vision to play the right ball.

We need to push up while dropping back, play narrow on the wings, slow it down with a bit of up tempo. Go on my Son, you dickhead.

Like the sidelines of an under 9s here, innit?

Generally more positives than negatives IMO. Doherty looking much better than Aurier and Hojbjerg knits the team together far, far better than Sissoko. We created about 3 very good chances and are unlucky not to be ahead.

Davies and especially Winks have been pretty poor. Winks has his purpose but in a game like this he just looks lost - providing nothing offensively and a pushover defensively.

Alli has been mixed. Our play has broken down through his poor first touch but he's also made a couple of neat passes and was unlucky not to score. Not terrible by any means.

Everton's only clear cut chance was borne of a once-in-a-season brainfart from Davies, so I wouldn't read too much into that.

Overall we're playing better than we did on that winning run at the end of last season so I'm generally hopeful. This is a decent Everton side and we're holding them very much at arms length while still creating chances.

Far from spectacular but some green shoots there. We'll look far better with Lo Celso (or maybe even Ndombele) in there.

Winks has been poor, but he probably isn’t fit is he. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him replaced around 60 minutes. NDombele isn’t fit either so let’s not expect a miracle if he comes on either.

Came on here at HT and surprised at comments. We’ve been good, solid, aside from one Davies howler. Doherty & Hojbjerg both doing well. Kane at the races too. But you can see Everton have added quality over the summer as well. One goal could decide this.

Now that half time, now sure which game some were watching. We had more chances that were close, they only had one due to our error. Possession wise we were just shading 49% to their 51%. Passing wise we were only 20+ passes fewer than them and we played most of our possessions in their half, which they spent most of their time in theirs.

For the unbeknownst, they would have thought Doherty and Hojbjerg were signed from relegated teams, and Dele and Davies were youngsters plonked in playing their first match today.
